Oh, and it's given the rest of the world only one decent band (Kleenex) in the last 50 years......

I beg to differ. You forgot the mighty Krokus

suppose one bad thing about Britain is the political correctness.
Doubt youd get away with saying "chinky" now, lol.

i agree switzerland isn't a particularly exciting country to live in, but that suits me fine tbh, as i've had all the excitement i can manage during my druggie clubbing days in the uk...

So, come here to party, go to Switzerland to complain about how crap it is here? Nice attitude.

Where are you from, Onslow? You must surely be aware that it's the right, almost the duty of every Englishman to complain about how crap this country is.

I've seen an etiquette guide for foreign students with the reminder "When the British start complaining about their country, it's considered impolite to join in...." :D

I'm not 'British' in the Yookay sense, but I can see that working class English people are definitely far more tolerant and anti-racist than ANY other set of people in the world, including Jamaicans, French, Spanish, Indians and so on.

Absolute fucking bollocks!

No way should the Spanish be in that list, you're talking shite as usual.

lol, yea thats true, we wouldnt be British if we didnt moan, about absoloutly everything.

Dont get me wrong im not saying that we should all be dead proud to be British, but i think we should just realise it could all be alot alot worse.

Not this old chestnut again. I think it's a good move for labour propaganda to neutralise the old Tory grip on nationalism and little Englanderdom just as it is doing on law and order. This way the Tories never get back in.
Except they do don't they? They're just called Labour now.

Being 'proud' of my country of birth or residence is something I've never felt compelled to do... It just doesn't seem natural to feel pride of something you're a part of through luck or misfortune (depending on how you see it)...

I'm am proud to not be proud!

p.s. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy the good aspects of a particular country/culture and have a good moan about the bad ones!

except I love it when people join in. I'll have to write a stiff letter to that guide.

Im taking this as being sarcastic?

you shouldn't imo. :)

i'm half spanish and have lived and worked in spain and i would argue that the spanish are not particularly racist.

well, if you had become seriously ill and had to leave england and move to a civilised country to get decent healthcare and medical support, you might feel a bit pissed off with the uk too...

and i didnt 'come to england to party', i was born there!!

I'm 'proud' of Britain, on the whole, although maybe getting less so. This is not in a jingoistic 'everyone else is crap' way, but I think it's a very interesting place, a tolerant place and a varied place where I enjoy living.

I don't know if perhaps I've always felt I could express this because I have a non-English parent who's clear in her admiration of this country. She loves her country of origin (Slovakia) too, but for some different reasons - eg openness of the people (not an English quality) and stunning natural beauty (OK, parts of England are lovely, but I don't know if any of it beats parts of the Tatras)

A tad dramatic dont you think? Its hardly a tattoo, just a little card we carry in our purse/wallet.

It wont even effect your life in any way, shape or form, just an extra piece of plastic to add to all the rest.

Have you ever been a political activist with dissenting views?
Have you ever been followed by the police?
Have you ever been threatened by the police?
Ever been arrested for policital activities?
Have you ever had your phone tapped?

Only if you can say yes to any of these questions are you in a position to criticise those of us who have concerns over ID cards.

I take it you have been a political activist with dissenting views and have been followed, threatened and arrested by the police whilst at the same time having your phone tapped?
If this is the case then yes, you should be worried about Id cards.
As for the rest of the population, they can sleep peacefully at night.

Is it fuck. English are more related to Hottentots or Javans than to the Celts.

What i ment is if someone dumped in the middle of an estate in Scotland ( lets say i was deaf and there were no roads signs about) I wouldnt suddenly think God im in Scotland. I would think God i could be anywere in Britain.

But if i was dumped in the middle of some estate in Switzerland par example i would probably be able to instantly detect i was not in Britain.
