Are you coming to Strawberry Fair? Urban75 Year 4 : Saturday 4 June 2005, Cambridge, FREE!

We're going to be camping a few miles away and plan to just make our way to the festie and back on foot/car/taxi/magic carpet/whatever presents itself :)

I'll be there... finally! :) It's my sister's birthday party in the evening, but SF doesn't go on till late IIRC, so plenty of time for both!

Can you camp there then???? I didn't know that........ :)

I'm not local, but I do know the score about camping. Camping is definitely not encouraged, but not actively banned. The best area of the site is behind the main East Stage, up towards the Elizabeth Way flyover where a few Travellers vehicles are usually parked up on the Friday and Saturday nights, so you'd be less conspicuous if you camped there -- it's the part of the site where a few tents are usually found pitched.

Better if you can get the train up and back on the Saturday, but at a push, camping can be done ...

Not brilliant as an option, as no toilets/water/tea/food are in any way available on site on the Sunday morning.

But Stig and I are considering the camping possibility this time ;)

Shame about the last train time though. Are you sure about that Baldrick?

Aurora (and others) -- I don't think baldrick means the last train back to London

Have a look at Hollis post further down ...

Here are the train times depart King's Cross

1106 - 1225
1115 - 1202
1145 - 1230
1151 - 1252
1215 - 1301

And departing Cambridge

2151-2322
2231-2331
2234-0015
2311-0040

So the last Kings Cross train looks like 23:11 :(

Earlier than I remembered (may be worth double-checking ALL services), but not too bad given that the festie stops at 10 ... includes some time for a post festie pint in one of the fine pubs between the site and the station ...

<edit to add Hollis' later correction on last train times from Cambridge to Kings Cross : >

<later re-edit :mad: >

This is very UNCOOL and WRONG

Ignore the below -- the later times are for the WEEKDAY Cambridge/Kings Cross service only, not the Saturday one ...

As long as people are coming to have fun and not sneer at our burberry wearing capped youth then it will be good to see people :)

Does she mean us London types???

Not me guv!!!

Dance Tent is definite this year, bonus cos it was all getting a bit out of hand with the dance area taking over, the ethos of SF being lost and the whole event being in danger of not happening at all if things carried on the way they were

Yes -- I'd heard something similar from my brother. About last year and the out of hand thing I man -- the Dance Tent news is new to me. It sounds like good news all things considered ...

Council put on buses from the station for the event so you'll have no problems getting from the station to the fair.

For those not wishing to walk, bear the above in mind!! (Queues for those buses can get a bit drastic after 10 though)

For the lazy :p : Cambridge City Council buses from the site to the station after the Fair .. (and I think they're free??)

For those who don't want to stop too early :D :

Walk back to station broken by a choice of some excellent pubs directly on the way ... walk is about a mile (?) I think ...

<later edit> : BUT WATCH YOUR TRAIN TIMES -- last train back to Kings Cross on Saturdays seems to be ridiculously early -- 23:11 it seems, after various double checks ...

More info on pubs soon ...

Get off the thread sheo..

National Rail Enquiries let me down . You press the 'later time' key and it doesn't scroll on to the next day.. Idiots..

Although I believe all the rest are correct, for peace of mind, I suggest you check them yourself.

THE LAST TRAIN LEAVES CAMBRIDGE AT 2311

Oh bollocks. I thought I was just getting you to double check whether those trains were SATURDAY, just for an insurance policy

I have just tried myself to recheck http://www.thetrainline.com but I am denied access when I input the search, reason not given (I got the station names and date (04/06) absolutely correct, so who knows what it was??).

Unfortunately access to this resource has been denied, which could be due to a number of reasons.

23:11 sounds really really early for a last train for a Saturday night -- are you absolutely sure?? Huge discrepancy from weekday trains, sounds more like Sunday ....

Once we are 110% definite, I will go back and redit my earlier posts on this, and I suggest you do the same ... please. Poeple may get misled.

Fucking 'late' trains my arse!!!

I've double checked.. Previous years, I've always had to leg it for a train around 11 ish..

And I just checked National express for coaches.. you dont wanna know. ;)
