if i want a drink it's a nice cup of tea (and if i don't get my tea in the morning you better fucking get out my way).

or beer.

although i need to go to the offie now :(

I do drink quite a lot of coffee and coke, and I get headaches if I stop drinking it for a day or so. I guess that means I am addicted to caffeine :(

I get through a shocking amount of coffee at work, some days 10+ cups.

We've got one of those poncy coffee machines that makes all sorts of different types of fancy coffee, but I always just stick to instant. T'was what I were born & raised on....

I put that I'm addicted, even though I tried to 'detox' to prove to my girlfriend that I wasn't, and didn't get any headaches or any other ill effects. I just really fancied a coffee. The detox was supposed to last a month, but when me missus found out I wasn't having withdrawal symptoms after a week and a bit, she said I obviously wasn't addicted and 'allowed' me to carry on.

Sadistic swine! She actually wanted me to have headaches, I just know it.

Anyway, I drink between 1 and 5 big mugs a day of strong, 'proper' coffee. I even bought myself one of these because I can't face the instant stuff at work:

One-Cup Cafetiere

Not addictided, I can do without it for long periods but you really don't want to get my back-up/look at me/speak to me till I've had at least my second cup of the day. :D

But not instant, proper real coffee is the biz! :)

Defiantly addicted. I can easily go for weeks and not want or miss coffee but if my triggers for coffee consumption are pushed like morning meetings or in fact being required to do real thinking work in the morning at all then it doesn't happen with out coffee. I have to have had a coffee (ok two) in order to function (or at least feel that I am functioning) correctly in those environments.

Therefore I am dependent. I'd call that addicted but pogofish doesn't, either I'm being overly cautious or they are lying to themselves.

generally start the day with a cup of tea, have a coffee midmorning, one at lunch time, and another mid afternoon, then switch back to tea:)

Why do people who 'can't function' in the morning without coffee wear it like a badge of pride?

because we can

*looks proud*

actually I function fine in the morning without it...

I often wonder this. There's a fucking annoying twat here who says every morning, "Don't even think of talking to me until I've had my coffee." with hands held out palmwards cos she 'can't handle it' until she's 'had her fix' guffaw guffaw

You should say 'Yeah, I'm the same with heroin!' and then disappear into the stationery cupboard for five minutes with a belt and a teaspoon.

Acceptable face of addiction innit.

There are other reasons though. In many work places it is an acceptable way of expressing dissatisfaction with morning slots and creating a break between when someone walks up to you as you arrive at work and gives you a thing to do and actually starting it.

I can function fine before coffee, but my head hurts. I didn't have any caffeine yesterday and I've got a banging headache now :(

I can't be doing with caffeine. I don't want feel all weird and jittery, I like being mellow. I even drink decaffinated tea.

I quite like a cup of tea or coffee once every few months. Other than that, I am not bothered.

I am stuck in a nasty cycle of coffee abuse. Drink lots during the day. Don't sleep until late because of the caffeine. Wake up tired and grumpy drink lots of coffee. Ad infinitum. I have tried cold turkey but the headaches are horrid.

It's pathetic, really. Help!

<eyes stove top coffee machine and ponders whether it is too late for a small one>

Get yourself some chocolare covered coffee beans. Have your usual cup of coffee in the morning, and one at mid afternoon. Then, if you feel yourself waning later on, have a few coffee beans. That was you won't need a whole cup of coffee, and shouldn't last as long.

I have not tried this method.

###warning! warning! chocolate covered coffee beans are super addictive!###

Are they like chocolate covered raisins? In which case it is probably not a good idea. Cue palpatations and 3 days without sleep.

When I do drink coffee I have it pretty strong.
None of this tea spoon malarkey but shaking a huge pile out of the jar.
But then again I only ever drink coffee at work and only one in the morning and one at lunch. I only drink tea at home.
Also if I don't have said coffee at work I don't really miss it, its more that I just feel a bit more tired than usual.

I'm the same. I don't do instant unless there's no alternative, and TBH then I'll usually prefer a cup of tea.

I was, however, somewhat responsible for convincing my boss that we needed a Gaggia in the office kitchen

i an not addicted to coffee

but i am addicted to caffeine

i'm not the kind of person who needs it in the morning or else but after about 3 days of nothing i do get withdrawal symptoms

I can't drink tea or coffee anytime after 6pm - it keeps me too alert - an old flatmate used to have a coffee before bedtime yet still manages to sleep about 18 hours a day - I envied her
