Lack of information and lack of logic are two great problems Butcher, but this doesn't let in the supernatural, at least not in my world.

Yet it seems that you're assuming that it does in my world though.

What do you mean by supernatural?

Ok, I'm gonna get laughed at for this but...

I was watching Mind, Body and Kick Ass Moves the other day, and one of the examples was the 'Body as Rock' thing, where the demonstrator stands still and gets loads of peeps to try and push them over, and obviously they can't, the persons body is literally rooted to the ground...what if...certain training techniques can influence, in a limited way, how reality behaves at the quantum level? For example, the demonstrator in this case has rooted themselves to that set of coordinates at the quantum level?

Now, I'm Mr Rational Materialist through and through, so this might sound like a weird thing, but i figure that it's all still happening in the material universe, just not in the way most people get it = sort of mystical but not IYSWIM.

I think thats possible. I also have some screwy ideas on the whole quantum thing, I think we have more control over our world than we know....which is very dangerous.

I am a 'smelly'.

It's a church I just set up for people who are open-minded and not up their own arses anymore. :D

Reference to this article here by Richard Dawkins,, this merely asks whether you feel that the world is simply govern by physics, or whether there is a supernatural element:

I don't think the world is simply governed by physics, but I do think the world is governed by physics.

Actually, I think the energy in the world is merely managed by physics, no government involved.

There's nothing more pathetic and ridiculous than an organisation of people who don't believe in something - whatever they choose to call themselves. It's a personal issue. It doesn't need a club.

a bright Butcher.. Are you actually reading this thread??

No, i asked you if you think you're bright too- we already established that you're 'a bright' -remember that hour long conversation we has this morning about this? No? Well, never mind it's all up above, have a look when you get a chance.

I'm now asking you if you think brights are bright, by definition.

What's the point? Are you trying to derail this thread?? If you want to create a thread about whether the people on U75 feel they are bright as in the adjective, then start one. Otherwise stick to the subject at hand. :)

If you want to know then you start the thread, and I'll comment on it there. :D

Otherwise I will return to the subject in this thread and ignore your attempts to derail it. :p

"A bright is a person whose world view is free of supernatural and mystical elements. The ethics and actions of a bright are based on a naturalistic world view."

Quoted from the OP. :)

Alsoo from the OP:

Geisert and Futrell are very insistent that their word is a noun and must not be an adjective. "I am bright" sounds arrogant. "I am a bright" sounds too unfamiliar to be arrogant: it is puzzling, enigmatic, tantalising. It invites the question, "What on earth is a bright?" And then you're away: "A bright is a person whose world view is free of supernatural and mystical elements. The ethics and actions of a bright are based on a naturalistic world view."

an argument that being or identfying as 'a bright' is connected to being bright (aqnd looking for terms to hide the consequences of it). What do you think about that connection made in your own OP?

Do you really need chasing round the houses before you admit that you think being 'a bright' is in your mind, assocaiated wth being bright. Why are you so scared to say what you really think? Just admit it for fuck sake. And pull your pants up as well.

It's a term from a sci fi book I read when I was a teenager iirc. To apply it to real life is wanky beyond belief.

That's right. I don't have the courage. That's what's lacking.

I'm now asking you if you think brights are bright, by definition. Have some courage and answer.

Fearless truth seekers, swiping the veils from our eyes. Yet unable to answer a little question. Truly the word and our wonders are yours.

I don't believe in the flying spaghetti monster either...
Heathen! :(

I'm so clever... but clever ain't wise

I dunno bout Dawkins. He seems like a perfectly nice fellow... Can I be bothered to answer this question seriously...?

er... no. I don't care what he thinks, or anyone else either! :D

ShagGnostic...

Dawkins is gonna get such a surprise when he dies, tee hee!

"Everything you believe is wrong."

"it's all words, no?- words and concepts.
And the truth is beyond.
So it's better to forget all the concepts
and all that I have heard here...'
