Are we insane? Summer house

Absolutely brilliant - go for it!

It won't be colder than camping in a tent, so just wear a vest and use warm bedding.

Is there any kind of ground rent or service charge per annum? Any council tax? Utilities? I guess you'd have to insure it for building and contents? Any 2nd home tax?

You will find it a money pit because you'll always be wanting to do stuff to it, but I would think it'll be very rewarding, especially because it's so close to home.

Service charge is £500 per annum, no council tax as Koloniehave (Colony gardens) are exempt. In their wonderful Socialist ways they are purposely cheap and encouraged for all, they are seen mainly as a working class thing, the middle classes having far grander holiday homes - a mate of mine has one with a swimming pool and sauna in the grounds. He works in advertising though. *spits.

Actually I do have one friend who lives in one all year round, very close to Christiania, but he has a heater like the one I posted earlier.

Blimey. A home for £9k (plus a bit for the heater, I guess). That's astounding.

They have those on the edge of Berlin too - they look like the kind of caravan parks old people live in here.

That's next summer more or less sorted out then - all over to Boris's. :D

There's a very old development in a seaside town up north with places like this - they look fab but now very very expensive. What's wrong with having a summer place to spend your holidays? If I could afford it I would!

done.

just got the finance. yay!!!

Congratulations!! Your kitchen looks bigger than mine here in a 3 bedroom house!! :D

I think £9k for a 'holiday' home is fine, how much do people spend on caravans and camper vans?? Think some of them start at £10k!!
And you've got ground too

So when's the housewarming party?? I'll bring the Monster Munch(and a paint brush, and some nails if you like) ;)

You can buy a house in the north of sweden literally for pennies - if you like cold winter holidays and have a car you'll be fine. I've seen houses advertised in the local (swedish) press - virtually given away

Wow, that looks great. I'm sooo jealous you lucky thing. I'm guessing it's not far from where you live atm then, if you're gonna be living there all summer?

There are loads of new grants coming online next year in Europe for wind generated electricity, which might be a bit  but also pretty  and could make living there cheap as chips.

Isn't it? People pay more than that for a garage in the UK don't they? Or a little beach hut. £9k is less than what we spent in rent on a small London flat last year. I'd think you were insane NOT to buy tbh. I'd jump at the chance. Lucky you!

We sign this week. Got so many projects lined up as i want it perfect for next summer.

Yesterday I was talking with a friend about a food project (informal dinner parties with some of the best chefs in town) he is running here. I jokingly said well if you want some space to grow some veg let me know. He texts a mutually friend who is a chef in one of he best restaurants in town and he said he would love some space. So we are going to have a vegetable patch under guidance from an culinary expert. Proper nang.
