I should have said so I smudge my Arabic writing cos I'm right handed and the anser is NO.

It doesn't make a difference... you just end up holding the pen/paper differently IME.
I hold my pen weird and I still smudge my writing :(

I've seen a paper on this...apparently it's nothing to do with accidents...danged if I can remember what they said it was though :o
Anyway, you might find the country with most left handers if you find the country with most twins...iirc the incidence of left-handedness is about 10% of the general population but nearer to 25% in twins (fraternal or otherwise). I would imagine it's easier to find stats on multiple births than left-handedness as it's more widely researched and documented area.

It has to do with the stress of constantly adapting to using right handed things when you're left handed. It's not a lot of stress per instance, but it builds up over time.

apparently the percentage of prisoners, artists, and sprtspeople is higher in left handed than right handed people

i always like to think that being left handed gives you a perspective on things since so many parts of day to day life are designed backwards for you

iirc, leftdominant people tend to have more developed right brains, which is where all the artsy stuff is (scientific term). hence lots of left handed artists, actors etc.

but not me. i always wanted to be left handed when i was little.

I'm right handed but can write with my left. (And upside down. And mirror writing. But those are another story) Can do most things left handed too really, sort of interchangeable. My bro's left handed.

I'm proud to be a southpaw. My darling husband is a southpaw too.

He smudges his writing, I don't - because he holds his pen in a cackhanded fashion, and I hold mine like a right handed person holds their pen.

I've recently been educating people about how many knives are right handed. Most people don't seem to have a clue.. I'm even thinking I might start carrying round left handed knives with me.. I'll be a wow at the airport! :D :o

see that was exactly what i was talking about. my first thought was 'how can you have a right handed knife'? but i bet if i used a left handed one i'd notice straight away.

It's difficult to map how many people are left-handed in different countries because it's still culturally unacceptable in some places and children are trained out of it at an early age. It was common the UK to try to change a child's natural preference until the 1960s. I had terrible problems when I first started school in 1968, and some of the older teachers wouldn't accept that I was left-handed.

It seems increasingly likely that all these associations are not with left-handedness but ambidextrousness. In other words, artists etc are likely to be less handed than, say, accountants.

There are hardly any people who are as left-handed as the most right-handed half of the population are right-handed, if you see what I mean. Not enough had been found, last time I looked, to work out whether their brains work just like equivalently strongly handed right-handers.

sounds like bad sportsmanship on your behalf.........righty??? per chance?

I am left handed where handwriting is concerned and always have been, but I remember one of the teachers at Primary school trying to put a pen in my right hand.
I reckon most countries will have both left and right handed people, I dont reckon this is something that could be proven that was perculiar to certain countries though Muslim people are encouraged not to use there left hands for stuff other than cleaning things

ninja..........for once im with you

i once worked as a home help and mainly it was the old folk (wiping arses and making breakfast........good money if you have a strong stomach btw) but this one house i went to was in a predominant muslim community in the area i lived at the time, and because the wife had her period she was considered dirty, so i was employed purely to go in and was his feet with my left hand as opposed to my right(or vice versa) WTF is that about>>>>>> ?

the batty is cleaned with the left hand in Islamic culture, they eat with their right hand and do all things that are associated with the right hand are good

I don't understand! What kind of knives are right-handed? I've never had any trouble with kitchen knives and you hold you dining knife in your right hand anyway

Mrs Magpie,

I've PM'd you a couple of times, but you've not replied

Could you please get back to me?

Ta.
Piss off.
What part of 'further correspondence will not be entered into' did you not grasp?

I'm betting Israel is quite left-handed. My bro, sis and dad are southpaws, as seem to be a slightly disproportionate number of Jewish people I know. I suspect this is not unconnected with Hebrew's reading the opposite way to Roman text.
