Are Subway sandwiches as gross as they look?

Subways in no way hide the contents of their food....

I find their outlets cleaner...

Food p[reparation is very hygenic and you can see what they are doing..

NO microwaves involved...

tasty

healthier options IMO

Better than MC Donalds by far ime.........

I don't, actually, it's a shame, and I think it would be pretty difficult to do it yourself too... you could do most of it but it's the whiz that's the problem really, no idea where you could find cheese that's liquid at room temperature here. One of my friends actually wanted to buy a drum of it and take it back.

phildwyer might know I suppose.

Pretty sure you can buy liquid squirty cheese in most supermarkets these days. Definately seen it. In fact, sure I bought some once that was 'jalapeno flavour' just for the sheer wrongness of it all.

Oh, and Subways suck. Big time.

If it was a choice between a nice bakery with a sandwich counter and Subway, then it's a no-brainer, but if it's a choice between most other fast food and Subway, then Subway wins.

They are overpriced, though.

I don't think anyone's under any illusion that it's not fast food, are they?

god - if there was a yummy sandwich bar/deli everywhere that there was a subway, i'd be made up. There's a nice place in Old street station.

However, there are some ranko sandwich places, where the fillings have a crust on them (through low turnover, i guess). I got food poisoning from once such place - a little bakers in Debden. Lost a stone in a week. Vile.

I'd take subway over somewhere like that any fucking day. The turnover is high, so ingredients are fresh - the prep areas are spotless - and the meatball/cheese sub is a truly guilty pleasure.

mostly, I like the massive amount of interesting salad you get.

If i was going to abuse anything, i'd abuse nasty shop sandwiches in triangular plastic thingies...

so, the same in that they both smell of food? sounds alright for somewhere that sells food, to me.
They don't smell of food, though. McDonalds smells of old grease, Subway smells like a chemical made in a lab to imitate the smelll of bread.

Fail to see what peoples problem with subway is, other than it being a big chain. Much prefer theirs to any prepackaged sandwich or rolls I've found anywhere. Plus its all freshly prepared, as you actually want it, without that being a fuss, not bad for you either.

That's what I would say. Not bad for a chain, although I try to forgo chains in favour of small suppliers. You get a lot of veg/salad in them so I suppose they're reasonably healthy.

I wish I hadn't read all that stuff about the cheesy gravy-ey meatball one. I'm going to have to raid the fridge now - YOU TANTALISING BASTARDS! ;)

i remember in Leeds on Cardigan Road there was an independent Subway-style sandwich shop, that was very nice and also ethical i guess. those were the days.

I don't know about Cardigan road but in Oakwood and Leeds Centre there's a Slips Deli which is a similar but much much nicer than Subway type of thing.

Subway sarnies are a bit soggy and gippy and I don't like their plasticy veggie sausy things. All in all a little bit blueeergh...

I tried one once. I guess I wasn't fair to them - I was hoping for the sort of hoagie I practically lived on in Philadelphia. (Hoagie is Philly for "sub". Roll, ham, cheese, more cheese, salami, mayo, salad, tomato, peppers - oregano, sir? I never really got on with cheezesteeaks).

It did not, of course, live up :(

I just have to ask… I’m not sure I’ve ever seen anyone eating one and on the occasions I’ve gone in and looked and must say there seems to be something plain wrong about Subway sandwiches. I mean, the combos don’t really seem to appeal and the fillings look plastic-y and overly brightly coloured. Do they taste as artificial as they look, or can anyone leap to their defence?

Maybe they make them different there.

Here, my only complaint is that you aren't getting a lot of food, mostly just a lot of bread, for the money you're spending.

They taste good enough, but it's just an overblown sandwich.

My kids love subway; I'll usually choose someplace else.

that was what it wa called, maybe they've opened new branches now

I've been to subway twice - the first time in dubai and I ordered a tuna bagel and got a sub with tuna and fake bacon on it

I've been to the one in peckham and ordered a chicken salad one and they wanted to put cheese on it and nuke it in a microwave

I think subway makes me all confused

IMO they are absolutely disgusting. Dunno why anyone with teeth would want to eat such soft bread either. It's French Batards all the way for me. I feel sorry for people like my girlfriend, who didn't know that sandwhiches existed before Subway arrived.

If youre starving then they fill a need but I wouldnt buy one unless I was starving and there was nowhere else

I had one once and cost nearly £4! Why go there when there are smaller places which are cheaper and just as good if not better?

Some people have more money than sense and/or will buy anything if it's marketed in the right way.

I dunno... maybe it's because people like consistency. You can go to any Subway and you'll get the same thing at the same standard every time. It's part of the reason why Maccy D's is so successful.

Problem is with Subway, it's consistently shit.

I've tended to steer clear of Subway.. mainly because I prefer crispy rolls to soft. But we were stuck in Brussels train station and the only choice for something to eat was Subway.

It was alright, I suppose. Bit plasticky, but we were really hungry...

I'm not sure I'll have any more, now we're home.
