Are Subway sandwiches as gross as they look?

I'm going to have a footlong BMT on herbs and cheese bread, with sweetcorn, lettuce, chillis, mayonnaise and sweet onion sauce

that sounds like a winning sandwich

wait wait wait... could you describe their cheese steak? i've been looking for a philly-style cheesesteak sandwich since December.

Big portions of cut up sliced steak seasoned in peperery stuff (not really helping here am i) topped with cheese.......not like the original i bet, but bloody tasty....

What makes it for me is the southtwest sauce........................

Subway is really overpriced for what you get, as well.

When I was in Crewe, I used to go to this dead cheap nice sandwich place called McCormicks; I was amazed when I came here and spotted that they'd opened one up in Manchester :D

no not authentic... but maybe a stopgap. is the cheese real processed cheese, and melted?

Fail to see what peoples problem with subway is, other than it being a big chain. Much prefer theirs to any prepackaged sandwich or rolls I've found anywhere. Plus its all freshly prepared, as you actually want it, without that being a fuss, not bad for you either.

they do it as a special on a thursday. £1.99 for a 6".

i did eat their meatball marina till i found out it was as bad as a mucdonalds.

I just have to ask… I’m not sure I’ve ever seen anyone eating one and on the occasions I’ve gone in and looked and must say there seems to be something plain wrong about Subway sandwiches. I mean, the combos don’t really seem to appeal and the fillings look plastic-y and overly brightly coloured. Do they taste as artificial as they look, or can anyone leap to their defence?

No they are great

travelling across america in the mid 90's and in a lot of places it was pretty much the only place to get veggie food... i practically lived on subway when i was away from either coast.... i liked em - not much to call to eat them here tho when we have decent sandwich shops everywhere

The meat is poor quality and there's not much of it at all. Also, the rolls aren't right, and they don't use Cheez Whiz, just triangles of plastic cheese which get melted in the oven. It's a pretty pale imitation (though not utterly revolting in itself).

ah, finally someone who knows what i'm talking about! do you know of anywhere in London taht does them? i am obsessed.

I don't, actually, it's a shame, and I think it would be pretty difficult to do it yourself too... you could do most of it but it's the whiz that's the problem really, no idea where you could find cheese that's liquid at room temperature here. One of my friends actually wanted to buy a drum of it and take it back.

phildwyer might know I suppose.

Cor, I never knew Subway could rouse such passion!

(Mind you, this is urbanites on a Friday afternoon)

it's tomatoey sauce not gravy, they also serve the same sandwich on garlic bread now...I haven't tried one. Some of their sandwiches are okay, not a big fan of the breads they make tho' the smell is sort of sickening.

Ive had the one here and there but theres something not quite right about them that I cant put my finger on.:)

I've never heard something called a pale imitation of Cheez Whiz before - the stuff in Subway must be about a million miles removed from actual cheese if that's the case!

Yeah, that's what puts me off going there - I've never been in to one but just passing by them on the street, they always have that distinct nasty pong to them. Same as MacD's, but just a different smell.

Ohh, I'd kill for a footlong bmt toasted on italian herb and cheese, with lettuce onion peppers and lots of southwest sauce. *dribble*
