Are petrol prices going up in the UK??

Nevertheless, your gas is much cheaper at the pump than our petrol. My local station is charging 116.9p per litre for unleaded. A year ago it was 98.9p. That's an 18% increase.

Once they sneaked past that £1.00 "psychological barrier" there was no stopping them :(

I get emails weekly from a place that tells me the cheapest petrol prices in my area.

Nearest to me .65 miles price 113.9p for Unleaded.

I have an email from the same place dated the 27/08/07 at 91.9p

That is an increase of 24%

Aye, it was much less than a year ago that it hit £1/litre. Feels like weeks, but probably towards the end of last year?

Petrol prices in Australia are going up, but my brotherin-law says that diesel is the killer. He is a spud farmer and he says that the cost of diesel and other fuels are breaking the back of the proud Aussie farming man. The prices of produce does not go up in line with the cost of fuel, so if diesel goes up 30c thats 30c you lose.

It's a worry and I don't know what can be done or what to do or say to make him or myself feel less frightened :(

Article in my local rag today saying the local bus company is withdrawing 4 of its services as they can't make them profitable due to the rising cost of diesel. They're not small local journeys either, they're major arteries joining the big towns together.

Problem is, when they axe the unprofitable longer journeys that get people into town there's no longer anyone in town to use the smaller local routes, so they start losing money too. It happened a lot when the buses were privatised, IIRC.

Unlikely, they haven't even started work on that yet so it won't be impacting on the bus services now - they're cancelling the tender from June this year.

just looked at this months receipts:mad:

05/5/2008 £1.199

over the same period a ham cheese and pickle sandwich from the mini M and S inside the petrol station has remained constant at £2.40 :)

Not good. :(

Over here, the fishing industry is feeling the pinch as well.

we all need to switch to diesel cars and get ourselves an eco friendly converter thingy which makes eco diesel from chip fat for about 20p a litre

so why not buy bog standard at 114.9 per litre?

Tescos near us has put their unleaded petrol up a penny a day in the last week:eek:

Because if you have a more refined engine in your car (V6/high performance etc, etc) it's [premium fuel] better for the engine long term, the performance & milage, to use premium.

Having said that, whist in the UK last week with my car, I drip fed it a tenner of normal unleaded until I got back over to France to fill up with premium at a slightly less ridiculous price.

London yesterday: Prem ULeaded '98 = £1.26.9 p/litre

France yesterday: Sans Plomb '98 = £1.16.4 p/litre

Switzerland today: Prem 98 - £0.97.4 p/litre

If you had to pay the taxes we do , maybe Americans wouldn't use so bloody much and there wouldn't be such a big problem with oil supply.

This only works while it's a rare eccentricity - if it was common, there'd be queues round the back of chip shops.

One of my colleagues uses it in his Land Rover. His last comment on the matter was "it's about the same price as petrol now that everyone's doing it, and whenever I reverse, the whole thing smells of fish suppers".
