are newfangled cookers for wankers?

surely only a tosser who values form over function would buy this, to show off to his materially wealthy tosser mates during a dinner party, "oh yes my cooker is so beautiful, look how nice it is, it doesnt actually work but look how nice it is, want some more expensive wine? look, my kitchen worktops are made of solid pine"... the kind of shit cooker where you have a barely-sensitive glass touch-pad to select each ring, then you use another +/- pad to turn it up. if you have wet hands it doesnt even fucking work! pressing it harder does not work, and just leaves you frustrated. touching a piece of glass to try and control heat has got to be the stupidest cooker invention ever, how could this even be accepted by anyone? IT SHOULD BE BANNED!

Shame you haven't got a clue what you are talking about, they are faster and more economical than traditional stove tops.

It looks great, but it's not gas, therefore I wouldn't have it myself. It must be a joy to clean that ;)

It's only a cooker. And they are quite good, work well and are easy to operate and clean, but they are only cookers when all is said and done.

The wood surface is a less good idea, they mark very easily. The marble we have and the polished granite we had were both superior.

only cookers. only cookers!

Have you been in suburban before?

I'd always said I'd not cook on anything other than gas, but my mother-in-law has that exact same induction hob and it's utterly brilliant. It's actually better than gas, it gets hotter quicker, the low heat setting is properly low and it moves between different heat settings much better than gas - I was suitably amazed when I used it as my previous experience of non gas hobs had been rubbish. And it's a piece of piss to clean.

Actually there is one drawback and that's the wet hands thing, if you get it wet the controls don't work till you wipe them down.

Induction hobs are

far better than ceramic, easier to clean than electric/gas. So no, you're a wrong un.

, "oh yes my cooker is so beautiful, look how nice it is, it doesnt actually work but look how nice it is, want some more expensive wine? look, my kitchen worktops are made of solid pine"...

That's not pine, it's Walnut. Gaah! Plebs.

I got one of them but with real knobs designed by a Spinal Tap fan (they go up to 11).

Dead easy to clean and doubles as work surface to place things (not actually work on) when turned off.

Glad I don't have touch screen as I'm guessing it's a pain when switching from full power to simmer.

we have one in our shared kitchen, it's well good. Def as good as gas. really responsive.

didn't know you're supposed to use particular stuff on them though, none of us do :D

They are nice but I prefer gas. They also don't last and can get "hotspots" when they get old, they get knackered quite quickly and there's all sorts of stuff like not being able to have them on without a pot on etc.

Why would you want them on without a pot on??

I'd rather have gas, but induction is apparently 90% efficient, compared to 50% for gas.

You definately do have to use certain pans on them, wiskers and derv have one and I spent ages trying to boil water because I was getting stuff out of the cupboard where all the incompatible pans were stored

The incompatible pans don't do anything bad they just don't work.

They're not as good as gas but they must be so easy to clean they'd be my second choice.

IME induction hobs are safer and more responsive than standard electric hobs, and you don't get the annoyance of a gas ring (or the pilot light) blowing out when using a low setting. BTW I also prefer an electric oven for home use - gas ovens are usually pigs to light and have a habit of either going out once lit (and being unre-lightable until the thing's cooled down) or having no visible indicator that the oven is on and lit (if it's the type with concealed gas jets).
