In the 70's and 80's Arsenal wouldn’t allow themselves not to be infiltrated by NF and also was one of the only London clubs to have large numbers of black lads in its hooligan gang. That coupled with an interest in football from many of the 2nd generation settlers in the area meant Arsenal has long seen a multicultural following.

As for Ade - anyone who has actually followed his flirting with other clubs for the last 2 years and his lacklustre performances would be glad to see the back of him.

Booing Eboue was a shit thing to do, end off.

As for us being quiet, well yes it is sometimes, but not always, and there’s plenty of singing all game in my section of Ashbuton Grove.

And the cheapest season ticket is more like £950 btw.

A bit rich coming from a Spurs fan.

Sol Campbell????

He was a legend, then he left Spurs for Arsenal and all of a sudden he was gay???

In simpleton terms yes it is.

In real terms there no comparison to be made:

Adebayor > hero > leaves >"he's shit anyway etc"

Campbell > youth team and club captain > lies, lies and more damn lies > bosman > rivals > unsurprisingly hated (viciously by the more moronic elements)

At least they are quietly confident that they are decent rather than for some reason believing they're one of the biggest teams in the universe with little real justification other than nearly making 4th once.

Both North London teams have a good history of being multicutlural in terms of fans.

Traditionally West ham and Chavski have not.

not sure about Fulham, QPR, Palace

But Adebayor's not been treated like a hero the last season and I don't think anyone's saying he's shit.

Not a single one of the Gooners I've spoken with (at 4 or 5) wished him well, neither did any of them wish Henry well??

My only comment is that its like some sort of denial.

given his very public courting of other clubs at the end of season-before-last, it's no surprise that he went down in peoples' estimations last season really. and he didn't really produce last season either which didn't help much.

having said that, i do think that there's quite a significant change taken place in that most premier league fans don't seem to understand the concept of supporting a team anymore. i've always believed that to mean getting behind your team and trying to big them up, not spend 90 minutes shouting that they're a bunch of wankers (something that i was reading recently has been occuring much more at west ham, for eg).

i don't think you can begin to even compare the crowds at highbury and the emirates tbf, a significant amount of those attending now aren't the people who used to go 10-20 years ago - they're usually in local pubs watching matches now cos they've been priced out.

Breaking news: MOST FOOTBALLERS ARE MORALLY BANKRUPT MONEY GRABBING TWATS. Who really likes any footballers these-days?

Every gooner I know (and I know a hell of a lot) wished him well and we'd like him back to coach, not to play.

I'd prefer Bergkamp first. I can imagine him doing wonders with the kids but to have Henry back in any capacity would be great. The identity of the club seems to have bled out a little bit what with the move to the Emirates and the annoyingly high turnover of players in the last few years and it'd be fantastic to have Terence round and about just being involved.

shit fans are all in denial that arsehole wenger...
is a spoilt baby bad loser moans like a prat...
afc fans pay the most £, and the emirates [ corporate cock sucking stadium ]
even quietier than the libary [ thats highbury to you no-nufinks ]
ground half empty 15mins before the end..... joke

Spurs fan by any chance ?

Is it me or does Arsenal attract more black fans than most other teams. London teams at least.

I'm not necessary talking about at the ground, but in general. I always noticed in pubs that the black faces increased by a huge majority whenever an Arsenal match was on.

Is it down to people like Ian Wright??? Or am I just mistaken. I was always intrigued by this observation.

Oh and I'm not trying to link the black/Arsenal fans being rubbish topic before anyone starts going mental. :)

Yup.

A third of fans had seen racism at games, while many supporters from ethnic minorities remain reluctant to attend games.

1.6% of the fans surveyed said they came from "another UK or foreign background"
Arsenal have the most - 2.5%, followed by other London clubs
Just over 30% said they had witnessed racism towards players from other supporters

It's from 2001 but I'm not aware of a more recent survey.

And, no we're not...:p

Ade is a money grabbing mercenary. Good riddance.

I'm Spurs but putting rivarly to one side for a moment I've always quietly admired the gooners.

I grew up with half my mates supporting Spurs and half supporting Arsenal and have always found 'them' to be largely like 'us' - as opposed to Chelsea for example, who i've never found any common ground with.

Yes, the library was an apt moniker sometimes but Highbury could on occasion be really loud. Having been to Cashburton Grove there does seem to be a problem with accoustics but also there has been a huge increase in middle class fans able to pay the exorbitant prices PL clubs charge these days.

Can't really defend the 'booing' of players. However, are we to judge football fans as shit just because they may show their displeasure at the antics of their over paid primadonnas? Or because they don't scream and shout themselves hoarse at every game? I like to think that maybe gooners (and Spurs fans) over the years may have displayed a certain sense of sophistication and appreciation of footballs finer qualities in not spending ninety minutes singing and barracking every week.

Yes, you get some grounds where the atmosphere is red hot and deafening most weeks and I love them for it but not every ground has to compete with this does it?

The high levels of black support does pre-date the Wenger years as PTG pointed out. As do the high levels of Irish support which all helped keep the NF at bay in the 70's and 80's - as did the Jewish fanbase at WHL

I feel like a right slutty whore having said that. I'll wash my mouth out.........with soap.

Maybe I was just jealous of the marble halls and all that tradition and Charlie Nicholas having a better perm than Chris waddle

Arsenal's always tended to attract more black fans than its neighbours ime, even in proudest South London.

Some of that is the African connection, but I'd wager a lot's to do with the alternatives. Chelsea were damaged racist goods until recently, Tottenham were the all white flash git permy boys and West Ham an East End irrelevancy for Essex types in the main.
