Curse us for being open minded!

I'm listening to: Godspeed You Black Emperor, Mogwai, Biffy Clyro, Sigur Ros, Six By Seven and Weezer...

ha ha ha ha ha.

starts so well, but then mentions Biffy fucking Clyro and ends up at Busted.. sorry, i mean Weezer.

No idea, I still haven't heard them. I think I remember someone telling me they were played at PROD but don't recall what I thought.

cons:
a couple of them are quite cute :D

Deffo some eye candy! :)

But as mentioned above they are kind of in that "in band of the moment" thing like Art Brut 6 months ago.

They are OK got the album it is fine but cant really so what the hype is about. But defo not crap.

The hype is all about the fact they managed to get their music out there and known without the aid of a record company..totally grass roots kind of thing. Which would indicate that they have to be pretty good musically and lyrically for a start. Was it Myspace they used?

I like that for a start.

I've only heard the singles, but they are good to jump about to. They piss all over wimpy shit like the Libertines and Babyshambles- Cheesypoof take note!

mmmmm. Biffy.

:)

also - although they will not give a fuck what i think coz i am just a sad loser who posts on message boards - well done artic monkeys. :)

Lots of interesting & some predictable opinions on The Arctic Monkeys here. I voted Not Crap based on having heard the album and seeing them live on Jools recently. I'm off to see them Thursday in Liverpool on the NME tour thing. The initial vibe I get from them is that they are head and shoulders above the glut of guitar bands going around just now, playing live at least. Having listened to some of their contemporaries though I can now see why my thirteen year old keeps on playing my Small Faces, early Stones & Who albums !

Not crap, but hardly the Earth-shattering superband they're being made out to be.

Yup, virtually identical, no vast gulfs in terms of musical content or lyrical ability here, folks

They're not even the same style of music, you silly twat

only heard one song. but it wasn't crap.

heard three songs now, (one of which was them doing girls aloud's "love machine") and think they are definitley not crap. not heard the album yet, but the child wants it, so if she gets it i'll have a good listen.

I think they're spiffing
So do our 10 y/old and 6 y/old
This probably means they're desperately uncool if you're between 15 and 25

:)

tbh I haven't really heard much by them at all. But I voted CRAP because I felt sorry for CRAP as it's losing by so much and it looked a bit lonely. :(

(((((CRAP)))))

For a first album ? definately not crap , It`s tough for a bunch of 18 y olds to come up with anything thats going to be considered groundbreaking but give them time and they could work up to be crap though , time will tell , meantime I like the album a lot.

The lyrics are brilliant, almost rap-like in their wordplay. The music is competent but nothing groundbreaking. Not bad considering they're only 12 years old!

but why did you think it would be? the only groundbreaking thing about them is the way they "marketed" their music. :)

Been listening to them for a few months, way before any of you old doods caught on. :D

Yeah, I love em. Any band who can sing: 'I'm buying penny bubblies with me change' is OK by me.

so what we`ve got is a band that..........

is liked by 10 - 15 y.olds
is liked by 16 - 50 y.olds
is not even slagged by some music snobs
are liked by other music snobs
are unanimously raved over by the music press
have good lyrics ( even if accompanied by a tiny garage sound )
seem like decent blokes
did not rely on record co.hype for record sales

We haven`t seen many bands like that for a while

The one song of theirs I've heard I liked the sound of. I've got a bit of an aversion to listening to anything that's been overhyped (Libertines, Franz Ferdinand) but they look like they've worth a download.
