Appraising Michael Jackson

I thought I made a really good point on the last page that was cruelly overlooked :(

you can't appraise michael jackson on the quality of his recorded music alone, you have to look at the whole picture

Yeah you are right, he revolutionised the music video, and his dancing, that Bille Jean performance he did is still one of the most amazing things ever. And groundbreaking, dancewise.

he was like the prototype of 1990s branding

people bought anything to do with michael jackson, there was even that guy who had plastic surgery to look like him

he was as iconic as elvis. the fact that his albums don't sound that good anymore isn't really here or there imo

I take it ,then, that no-one else knows how to appraise music videos (from an economic standpoint) either. Or perhaps it's just that no-one undestood the question?

If you're going to attempt to be condescending, I'd work on your spelling.

As it is, I spent some time working on a magazine catering to the music video industry and know quite a lot about "how to appraise music videos (from an economic standpoint)", but it's a boring and largely meaningless question.

eta: oh, and your use of the word "else" suggests you do know how, so let's hear it :)

Considering English is not my first language I'd have thought you'd be more supportive.

Yet you took time out from your exciting exsistance to slum it, down here with me on, this "boring and meaningless" thread. How thoughtful of you!

In future, I'll ask you first before I post anything on the board that way I'll be certain to post only that which is meaningful and less boring.

Really??? If you're going to try to attempt be condenscending AND correct my English spelling then you ought to do a better job of reading comprehension yourself.

Read once again ...

since you've revealed english isn't your first language (how do you suggest i'd have known that?) I won't bother proving you wrong.

"English isn't your first language", huh? :hmm:

No, EARLY Michael Jackson - ie when he was in the Jacksons - was great.

It's all the rest that's s hit

Cant really arguie against The Jacksons

Off the Wall is amazing - Quincy Jones productions plus a still fresh Michael - cant go wrong with that one

Thriller...starts to get a bit weird here.. still some great Off the Wall types tracks (Wanna Be Startin' Somethin', PYT), but some Jackson 'concept' tracks sneeking in (Thriller, Billie Jean)

Bad - Michaels wierd personality shines through with tracks like Dirty Diana, SMooth Criminal, Speed Deamon showing more of him than previous material - culminating in that weird film he did. Leave Me Alone shows he was cracking up
-heard this album in full in a pub in crystal palce the other day and the production is pretty impressive - but the tracks are bizarre in their content

Dangerous - Michale goes new jack swing with loads of tracks produced by Teddy Riley - i quite like remember the time! A few jessus complex tunes on here too...

...im getting bored with this! bottom line: Michaels got a great pop voice, and gets to work in the best studios with top notch pop producers, but if you let his personality get too near the work it all gets a little but uncomfortable for me...

Poor jackson kids - they're all fucked up - church + tyranical dad + media spotlight = guaranteed mental health problems

Has noone else heard that 'Little Suzie' song then?

I was hoping I might find some fellow disturbed suffererers if I mentioned it. It is the most horrible song.:(
