Applying for a Museum Job

That's bad luck, I hope he hasn't let it influence him.

How long will you have to wait to hear?

Them's the breaks. He informed me at the time that "I've been drinking here for 25 years and you're not going to stop me." His poor mortified wife was kind enough to herd him inside for me.

I'm not expecting to hear very soon. Hiring the Director took 5-6 months. It will be shorter for this, but I wouldn't be suprised by a month.

Strange how some people take that sort of thing so personally.

A month seems a long time to decide out of three applicants. All or any of the three could have found something else in the meantime. Depends on the recruitment market I guess.

Glad the interview went well (apart from the scowling man), hope you get to hear soon.

My fingers are crossed for you :)

I'm glad it went the interview went well, but I thought it wouldn't do so. You're a smart lady with a lot of interest in your past.

Maybe the gentleman will think of it as proof that you dedicated to your job :) Or maybe he had a guilty conscience about the whole thing and hope you won't be telling any of his co-workers. Don't worry too much about it.

Good luck with the waiting game and I hope that they will be calling you soon.

Well, I'm certain I didn't get the job. They haven't hired anyone yet, but they had call backs for a second interview and I didn't get called back. I don't think I should feel bad about it. At least one of the applicants they called back had a PhD. The economy must be pretty bad if PhDs are applying for <$30K a year jobs.

Thanks for all the support.

Sorry to hear that. I went through a spate of applying for various museum jobs about a year back. I always came near the top of the pile but never bagged the job. Good luck in the future.

Sorry to hear that Yuwipi. The way you are positive and go-getting in your life is a really good trait. You'll get a museum job elsewhere no worries and they will be lucky to have you!

Sorry to hear that, was hoping - make sure you get back in touch with them and ask for some feedback. Better luck next time

I'm certain they're just going to suggest that I get more education. :)

You may be right and that might be what you want to / need to do if this is the career path you want to follow, but it could also give you something really tangible about how you interviewed and where you can do 'better'. I recruit and am always really happy to give detailed feedback to unsuccessful candidates, esp when there's something simple they can work on, such as more concrete examples, that they can easily improve on and hopefully do better next time

good luck :)
