Question Apple Music

it's eaten into illegal downloading too - I used to have huge mp3 libraries from when I downloaded stuff for casual listening: now I just go to spotify, youtube or bandcamp if I want to check something out and my hard-drive is practically empty.
I've been grateful for my huge mp3 libraries since moving house and not having proper broadband for the foreseeable future. When you're limited to 25gb/month, streaming audio suddenly feels like a luxury.

Yes, me too. That's the only reason anyone would sign up to it as an artist/label isn't it - basically that it's better than nothing. It makes it almost impossible to try and push people towards paying for anything else though.
I'm not sure if it's possible to get people to pay more for digital - legal streaming came along just as there was a concerted effort to make illegal downloading more difficult, and as it's reasonably cheap and convenient, most people switched to that. I suspect the price point is at the maximum the market will bear - increase the cost, and illegal downloading will go back up again.

(it's also possible to use some some streaming services without paying - spotify online player with adblock for example :hmm: )

After that ridiculous launch of Tidal a few months back, I don't think I could ever bring myself to subscribe to it.

CD quality for £20/month though.

Amusingly it was originally pitched as the audiophile's Spotify. There was a lot of spluttering when Jay-Z et al. stepped in.

I still haven't tried out apple music.

At the end of the day if I want to be able to buy and keep an MP3, not to pay for having the privilege of listening to it occasionally.

I've just stuck all my music onto an old hard drive, and set up a raspberry pi 3 as a plex server......

My own personalised apple music :D

Any more details on how you did this, software etc? My Pi 2 is gathering dust and this sounds ace.
