Here's some of my pics of the Nano:

As for Genius - well, it's clever but isn't it more or less what LastFM has been doing for years? And isn't there an inherent danger that a mass market recommendation system is just going to direct people to the more populist and bland?

Yep still can't decide between the new nano and the new touch...hmmm might be the nano due to price although a touch would be sweet!

The Nano is very small, cute and very slick but the screen is pretty small. If you're after the full multimedia/gaming experience, then I'd say go for the Touch. For what it does, I can't think of anything better.

Yeah but haven't really got 280 to spend on an iPod (heh makes me laugh that my trusty old 40gb 4G iPod cost me £300! Four and half years and still going with the same battery life as when I first got it) at the mo. My present iPod is acting up and generally hinting it's not long for this world so it might have to be a quick buy...but still the new touch is sweeet!

That's more like it:

Eh? Hang on a minute! WTF has Billy Bragg got in common with the Flamin' Groovies????

Why I ought'a!

is it odd that I realised I have every single track in that playlist?

Oh yeah a question for thread goers on here; how long before Apple completely dump the iPod Classic? I give it a year before it's discontinued.

How sweet. Do you carry it with you everywhere and regularly get it out for a quick polishing session?

*snigger*. I'm sure they get polished regularly.

I like the new nano, it looks like the old ones, I didn't like the last one, too square.

Not sure I agree... there is always going to be a market for those that want to carry *everything* - My 160 gigger has never had more than 50 odd filled though, so who knows...

Yes, very much so, but when operating within your own library, I'm game.

Even the Boomtown Rats? :D

I loved that song - my brother bought it from Ken Palk records in Bramhall, Stockport, 1978.

I feel a thread coming on.

Never. The Nano is a waste of time as far as I'm concerned. Either it's set up for shuffle and refills it every time you plug the thing in, or it holds every fucking song you've got.

These new Nanos are nice, certainly, but the basic point of them still seems to be missing. When I sync my music player with my machine I don't want to have to copy playlists and all that shit - I'd like the option, but 99% of the time I just want to hear music that I've got.

I may be off the mark in terms of time frame but I'm convinced it's gonna go at some point. Once the touch gets to near 100 gigs at a similar price it just won't make sense for them to sell the classic for sure.

The way they're calling it the classic now and dumped two versions for one implies to me that they're letting it go sooner than the point of storage parity with the touch...

Yeah, looking at the spec's the Classic's only reason for existing is that its got a hard disk and therefore can have 160Gb, which would cost a fair wedge in flash memory.

Surely there's always going to be a market for the big collection peeps though... Why kill off something that'll always have a market?

Until the touch thingies of this world reach the same capacity...

nah, dont like the new nano design, not into stick like things, ugly. thank fuck I've got a little square one.

Depends on the size of the market, the nano/mini line has long outsold the iPod classic line if I remember correctly...

I do - I've developed a whole new nervous tic since I got th'iphone. :D My boss caught me rubbing it against my bosoms to get a particularly stubborn fingerprint off :o

And Lordy is that Touch smudgy!

Surely if thats been on display tho it will have had lots of greasy little mitts on it...... especially if they're all geeks, they probably dont wash their hands after going to the loo etc

There were black-shirted Apple iBorgs on hand to keep polishing the things every time a journo put one down, but they still got dirty very quickly.

But it's hardly a big deal, just an observation and doesn't detract from the fact that I don't think there's any other PMP that even comes close to matching the style, grace and all-round usability of the Touch. It's a lovely piece of kit.

It's. Just. A. Phone.

Nobody seems to have mentioned that Apple have now dropped the 160gig version in favour of only either a silver or black 120gig? A step backwards or what??

I was quite keen on getting the 160gig one as well just as soon as my current 3G ipod has bitten the dust.

Why would they 'reduce' the size of their highest capacity ipod when they've been getting bigger all this time? I want to carry round my entire library and now they've got rid of this - its no longer possible. Twats.

they've dropped the 160gb? no :( i was saving up for one. i have 120gb of msuic on my hard drive and it's growing. damn you apple.

I think they were more concerned at offering an aesthetically pleasing super-slim iPod range.
