Another month, another Apple event to speculate over...

According to Ars Technica and our own tipster Matt, Apple has sent out invitations to the media confirming the much anticipated September 9th iPod event. The invitation features an iPod screen with the words "Let's Rock" on it. According to the invite, the event will be held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (located in San Francisco) at 10 am PT next Tuesday.

We have reason to believe that Apple will only refresh the iPods, instead of introducing new models to the MacBook line -- this is consistent with the invite.

Most speculation seems to indicate a new nano and iPod touch price drops. Wonder what, if anything, the 'one more thing' will be..?

Nano pricing in line with Sony equivalents would make me happy, especially as the new Walkmans claim to be compatible with iTunes.

Bluetooth on all models is also a good idea.

My walkman phone connects to my Car Stereo for both calls and music. It is beyond cool. I'd still rather connect a proper iPod this way.

i'm going to the US in december and only have a nano at present. a nice new big ipod would be great :)

I think Bluetooth A2DP gives them a headache as its an unencrypted digital stream unless they enable SCMS and thats shit anyway. Bluetooth headsets/receivers probably wouldn't work with that switched on anyway. You could then just copy that stream back to a MP3 devoid of Apples DRM. This is the reason I don't expect a A2DP profile on the iPhone.

Be interesting to see if they do include one.

Oh right, video linked to the Jobs speech I assume? Do Apple ever give away any decent freebies at those things (like a free iPod etc?)?

nah clearly not other wise the editor would be in rapitous praise of apple rather than his inhereant hatred of them (it's all born from a lack of freebies that they get him in he reviews their shit and they don't even give him a tea and a hobnob innit !!! :D)

Palm never, ever give any freebies - the bastards - but I'd be delighted to have an Apple freebie or two. Free iPod? Yes please!

Meanwhile, I'm busy practicing my high fives, enthusiastic whooping and gasps of admiration at every new minor update announced.

remeber the circle your waist hand gesture like you're sturring a large pot with the chant go apple go apple ;) :D

tbf tho palm proably can't afford to give anythign away for free without impacting on their margins the people at a palm shindig would be the people who'd buy them ... and they have problems with attracting a big enough customer base as it is...

If it's like the pps3 launch you might end up with bumper bonuses as well as a pod...

I look forward to the news footage of a small dreadlocked guy leaping about with joy at every Jobs 'o' announcement.

I look forward to the 2.1 software on Friday.

I might get a bit of extra battery life. Safari could do with crashing less as well.

Well that was *mighty* underwhelming - and they made us sit through two insufferably shite songs by Jack Whatshisface while we hung on for a Jobs' "and another thing" moment which never came.

Still. Free beer? Don't mind if I do, Mr Jobs.

Yeah... It's driving me up the wall. The time it seems most likely is when I'm typing out a forum post. Infuriating. That and the treacle-text-edit-in-SMS bug that is still happening.

(I took the plunge on the 3G upgrade by the way. Love the speed, not so keen on the battery life, but I knew about that so not such a big let down)

As an aside, it really made me realise how much technology has come on in general.

Apart from the iPod stuff, I used a tiny phone to take photos and videos of the launch, sent out a stream of updates to my editor over Skype, checked and sent photos over email, made some calls and looked at a few websites for news.

That's pretty amazing, isn't it, regardless of what make phone you're using.

Right, back to Jobsie's free beer.

PS The new Nano is pretty damn amazing. It's tiny!

"Genius is gathering information about your library..." I'm sure some people here would go into conniptions about that, but hey... I'm quite interested to see what playlists it comes up with...

Other than that, pff, bit underwhelming, eh? "Classic" range down to one model and a new nano... whoop dee doo! I was kind of hoping they'd bring out an even bigger Classic, so I could store a shit load of data / movies on it for use with me little lappy, but no. So nothing of interest at all in hardware.

Again, like their last big announcement, it's more about the software. Quite like the album view, but it's hardly revolutionary.

Slightly curved is still curved. Hell it's dimensions are pretty similar to the 1st gen nano, just slightly thinner and slightly curvy;)

(want)

Here's the Genius playlister's first attempt:

Not bad I spose, considering the choice of first track. I spose it was inevitable they'd go all Last FM on us, which can only be a good thing. There's so much stuff in my library, it's easy for things to disappear once they've been swallowed up by the enormity of the thing....

Oh, and I don't have just jazzy stuff btw... Though I'm sure Bill Evans would be pleased if he wasn't dead...

That's more like it:

Eh? Hang on a minute! WTF has Billy Bragg got in common with the Flamin' Groovies????

Why I ought'a!

Heh, I see the iPod touch is finally being touted as the DS killer...kinded temped by the touch too...hmmm.

Apple ain't rotting anytime soon, with the future stuff planned the personal mass memory TV will not be brought to you by Sony or by *snigger* Windows.

Love it. The Genius app is only in infancy too. Wait and see...
