Apparently the most stunning view in Europe!

Aren't nearly all the London views that people mention, views of central London? I've been trying to find a panoramic view of South London for some time without any real success.
err...have you not heard of a certain park in dulwich?

The view from Waterloo Bridge
That's my favourite. I try to pay attention and actually look at the view every time I cross, to remind myself of what an extraordinary city I (usually) live in. :)

You mean the side of the hill with the golf course? I tried there but couldn't find a decent spot, though struggling through the wood behind the Dulwich Woodhouse wasn't a scientific means of going about it. Can you advise?

Yeah

Ahhh...see the point. it's quite a way out in S E London so you get good panorama of dulwich, camberwell, brixton etc, but you don't get sydenham, forest hill. penge going t'other way.

Yeah, which you ought to really. You can get something from Crystal Palace Park and something (presumably) from round about the golf course and of course there's Denmark hill, but unfortunately the view from last is attenuated by the previous tewo and Dawson Heights! Perhaps from the top of the transmitter?

I'm sure there was a good view of SE London that I looked at before running away from the police on the big Welling demo all those years ago.

The view from Waterloo Bridge at sunset does it for me, on a good day it looks very beautiful. So good the Kinks wrote a song about it: Waterloo Sunset. :cool:

Wordsworth had similar views about Westminster Bridge

520. Upon Westminster Bridge

EARTH has not anything to show more fair:
Dull would he be of soul who could pass by
A sight so touching in its majesty:
This City now doth like a garment wear
The beauty of the morning; silent, bare, 5
Ships, towers, domes, theatres, and temples lie
Open unto the fields, and to the sky;
All bright and glittering in the smokeless air.
Never did sun more beautifully steep
In his first splendour valley, rock, or hill; 10
Ne'er saw I, never felt, a calm so deep!
The river glideth at his own sweet will:
Dear God! the very houses seem asleep;
And all that mighty heart is lying still!

King Henry's mound in Richmond park gives you a panorama of the Thames valley views of: Heathrow Windsor the river and lots of trees in one direction; and a view through a craftily cut keyhole in the trees of the dome of St Paul's in the other - on a very clear day of course! BBC rotating view here

Top o' hill at Crystal Palace for me. A majestic vista of almost all of London to one side and the rolling hills of Kent towards the Downs to the other. You cannot beat that.

Seconded. I love that view. Amazing in the summer.

I also love the view from Richmond Hill...

That octagonal tower at the top of Delancy Street? Last time I looked the house was still a nest of junkies though. Maybe some yuppies now own it?
