@ anyone walking around Brixton Hill 3-6am saturday night/sunday morning

What the fuck is going on?
I never had no problem in Brixton except from the odd racist remark from some random dumb kids. Never been mugged. Attacked. Forcibly butt fucked.

I even left my car unlocked with the windows wide open and never got nothing stolen. Not saying crime doesn't exist here but it isn't as bad as you make it.

I've lived in all of those (well, the ones in London, not Boulogne or Atlanta).

Well I'd recommend not laying in the gutter, pissed in them, or walking about looking like an office bod with a laptop bag and a mobile. To be fair, I never got mugged in Atlanta - someone just pulled a gun on me and told me to shut up.

I can't remember ever walking about with a laptop in Brixton, but have been in the gutter a few times without any problems. Also, I once lost 36 hours in Brixton, but still had my wallet when clarity returned.

I was once relieved of my phone in Brixton by some youths I was uttely shit face, asleep propped up against a bus shelter on Brixton hill, they woke me up said do you have any money? I say no, Ive spent it all getting pissed. So the sort of leader lad says, well give us your phone then, I went ok, but let me get my chip out first. I was so so pissed I couldn't do it right. He says, give it to me, takes the chip out, gives it me, and says dont be so stupid next time, go home.
Not exactly a traumatic experience but thats my one brush with difficulty really

He gave you back the chip?! :)

Lambeth, a better class of criminal.

That's fantastic.

I have left the front door open all morning a couple of times in different bits of Brixton, as has the family opposite. Nothing nicked.

Boulogne ? :p What happened?

Went over to an office for the day for a couple of meetings. Popped out and sat down beside a fountain with a baguette for lunch. 3 or 4 lads came up. One pulled a knife and said give me your (laptop) bag. I said "Fine. Have it. It's the company's, not mine." Dunno what it's like nowadays, but it was deserted back then.

At one point, the department I worked in (maybe 50 people tops) had 28 laptops nicked in a week. The funniest one was 4 guys on a train, all with their laptops out on the table. One bloke came along and said "I'm having them" and they just said "Help yourself."

The employer wasn't very good to staff so consequently we really weren't that bothered.

my mate deserved to get mugged...he had just been thrown out of a house-party in Balham for drunkenly breaking a garden fence and some slate tiles among other items

whatever part of london he was in i think he woulda got the same result that night

*this thread has gone a bit pointless*

Hmmm, I've been burgled, mugged by a gang of kids IN McDonalds, attempted mugging on Brixton Hill, my friend was mugged outside my flat, threatened a few times by sketchy characters. And bizarrely still feel safer and more comfortable here than elsewhere...

I don't get it - I've been here more than 2 years now, regularly walk up and down Brixton Hill and fairly frequently pop into McD's. How can 2 people have such a different experience - do we look different, carry ourselves different, or just go out at different times of day?

Probably, do you have that "just over 5'6, very slight, probably woudn't be able to fight with his limp wrist, more than slightly gay" look?

Well, I'm guessing that's the reason I've had a few issues...I'd say I certainly look like an easy target. I may be projecting though as this was the case at school.

Oh :( I had liked to think that muggers would prey on people for their belongings and not because they just want to beat someone up who looks weaker than them.

Are you sure it's not more other stuff, like walking around with earphones in / using a flash phone whilst walking / making eye contact with people who look angry?

Muggers are bullies. There are many motives, including just the fun of bullying.

I'm sorry to here you've been picked on, funkydita. Best advice I can give is the usual:
Walk quickly. Look as if you know where you're going. Be aware of what's going on around you. Check behind (inconspicuously!) at very opportunity (noises, road crossings, vehicles, anything). Cross the road to avoid people. Be prepared to run.

I'm out on the streets a lot, and at all times of the day and night. One can stay safe, and spotting the bad guys before they latch onto you is a big help in doing that.

I'd recommend "street glasses" if you are at all short sighted. Sharp eyesight can spot the hostile body language of a would-be predator from a greater distance than can blurry vision!

Last time i was drunk i woke up *literally* with blood on my hands. Luckily though it just turned out i fell over rather than any random drunken stabbings

a friend of mine was druink out of his face and reckons he got mugged (prob serves him right)...anyway; anyone see a incredibly drunk bloke wondering about at this time with a light blue adidas zip-up on?

would love to hear that someone did see him up to no good

*excuse the sp in the thread title*

I was stumbling home in Brixton Hill at that sort of time last night, to the best of my knowledge. I don't seem to be able to recall any of it though. So it may be that I mugged him. Obviously I didn't do a very good job of it as I didn't appear to have any extra valuables on me when I woke up this morning.

Can you ask him if he's got my house keys?
