The best deal ever in espresso machines was a few years back at Woolies. They had unbranded units out of the same factory that made Breville Cafe Roma machines. Same machine, no brand name, £30.
The frothing wand is rubbish and the basket always needs a wash due to sloppy grounds, but it makes better espresso than *anything* that cost £30.
Looks like it's a combination between a vacpot and a moka pot, only with a portafilter and heat sink...
If the tube does act as a heat sink, it could do very interesting things when compared with a moka pot...
e2a: if they're getting that much crema out of pre-ground, I'd be interested in seeing the portafilter - it looks (from the pictured shot) like it might be pressurised...
