Anyone recognise these pathetic little thugs?

I agree about the lack of emotional contact can make people more criminally inclined but on this particular situation it was just a bunch of arseholes who attacked an innocent man for the fun of it.

You known this...how? You know these lads personally do you? You know their personal histories do you?

Why do you think that might be? Is it genetic?

There may well be a genetic component to having a propensity to violence but that is by no means the whole story.

It may also have a lot to do with parents who never said NO to them when they were growing up.

Either way they are shitbags who deserve to go down for an extended period.

Now I know why you think you were leftwing. You treat everyone in the same underhand manner.

No I treated people as I wished to be treated myself and got soundly shat on for it. Not going to make the same mistake again.

Working in courts does make you more cynical about human nature. If you get the dregs of humanity passing by you every day it can make you think 'aye aye whats this one up to?' and be much more suspicious than other people who may nothave had similar experiences.

I grew up in a solicitor's practice in South London. I used to sit in while all types would spin yarns about why they had to break the law. I also saw how authority was misused - especially inside Brixton nick.

Somehow I didn't turn out as bigoted as you. I wonder why.

maybe you were never the victim of scum or seen friends and relatives fall victim to such scum.

Oh, so it's not working in a court of law that does it.. it's the fact that you hold a grudge. OK then.

I've been victim (some pissed nutters tried to throw me out of a moving train), my family have been victims (my granddad served time for hitting back), my friends have been victims (one was stabbed in the back as part of a gang initiation).

I still don't call them scum.

Fair do's. However, I still believe that criminal justice should be a mixture of rehabilitiation, retribution, punishment and protecting the public. No one factor should overide anohter.

So if it was a combination of genetics and poor parenting that contributes to someone being unable to control their own violent impulses (impulses taht we all have btw), how does that make them "shitbags"?

Lots of people have shit upbringings and a violent heritage but not all do stuff like this.

The fact that they have excersied their free will to act like animals does make them shitbags.

We had this argument before KJB and you agreed with me! Now you don't agree. Do you change your opinions like a pair of socks?

If anyone did that shit to me I had no qualms about thinking of them as scum and I'm not ashamed to say so.

But you said you had no personal experience of these lads.

Neither do you so I wouldn't be too quick to assume that their violent behaviour is down to them (all of them?) being abused or neglected as children which lead to their brains and personalities developing in a different way.

Perhaps some of them were shown a lack of love when they were growing up, maybe a couple of them are just pissed up wankers who enjoy the buzz of kicking the shit out of people. Who knows?

People are complex and have a variety of motivations and reasons for behaving as they do. To assign the same cause-effect behaviour to everyone is simplistic and naive.

I didn't. If you read my posts carefully you will see I haven't made any guesses as to the motivations of these people. The only posts making assumptions as to the motivations and causes of these particular lads behaviour has been KBJ and Andy the Don.
