Anyone read 'Half of a yellow sun'?

Yes I know...but because the other characters were all flawed it was hard for me to care....not saying thats the fault of the book, more my literary laziness but it didnt inspire me to get really emotionally involved with any of the characters.

That's what a member of our book club told me and that she'd read the whole thing. I felt guilty for suggesting it :(

Show some backbone! A member of my book group made us read Master and Feckin Comander by Patrick Bastard O'Brien! It was 5 years ago, but he still gets stick for it!

I've almost given up on my book group, I haven't really enjoyed any of the books we've read! There seems to be a split between wannabe intellectuls and 'normal' people who just want a good read.

Will do. I only joined cos they asked me when I'd had a drink and tbh I don't read enough fiction but stick to History/Politics cos I'm sad.

Y'know, some people just have different tastes. It's not about being a 'wannabe intellectual'. You might not like their choices but phrasing it like that just makes it sound like you have some kind of chip on your shoulder. If you don't like the choices of your bookgroup you may want to find one that suits your tastes more :)

I happen not to like 'normal' people very much (in general, not as opposed to 'intellectuals' :p ), but I just don't go to the many bookgroups that are full of them :p :D
