Anyone from Newham?

I used to work in Newham (East Ham). there are some great cheap Indian places to eat, although the pubs were pretty rubbish. most after-work drinks were at the Miller's, the Wetherspoons

That metal pub is also quite funny.

Where was the metal pub?

East London metal pub sounds entertaining :D

That's the one... wouldn't agree with all the reviews in there about it being souless - it's just a nice place to go and have a drink in and not be in slight fear - lol!

I used to live in Canning Town and the King Eddy was the only place I ever went. Summer Lightning and spicey dried peas in a bowl

C Town was about the only place I've ever lived that I didn't want to hang out in :(
It is nice there in the summer months :) I'm still in Canning Town - there really is nothing to do here, which is why I escape when I can... I've never been in The Ordanance Arms pub. Only C'Town pub I've been in was The Pitts Head (now well and truly closed) as it had a halfway decent beer/family garden my Dad used to take me to on a Sunday afternoon :)

To be fair I only lived there during winter 2006. Wet, miserable and had to 'double-glaze' my windows with cling-film :D

Probably the Ruskin Arms. Featured on the cover of an Iron Maiden track or perhaps two.

Spotted Dog was a kewl pub, but very dead. You only went there if you wanted a quiet drink and I think its shut down now. There isn't a pub in canning town I would go in without at least one person to watch my back. There is a pub down near silvertown that I wouldn't go in without an armed guard, the last time I was there I didn't get out the car and I had the engine running.

The Swan wasn't a bad pub, was huge too, but now it is a Betting Shop, which is just so bizarre when you think about it.

The Two Puddings further down I believe was where NIN guy used to live, Trent Reznor, his parents run that pub for awhile. I went there a couple of times, just because but it was a shit pub.

The Railway Tavern not that far from the Theatre Royal Bar has live music nights and is very good, there are also a few pubs not far from there, the Castle I think on the corner of Maryland Point, then there is an Irish pub, I don't think it is a theme pub, I think it is a proper old Irish pub, then there is another pub next to that, like 3 in 15 feet of space, and I believe that one has applied for a nude dancers license, that might interest some of you :hmm:

The Pidgeons on the Romford Road back in my youth was a very rough pub. I used to play cards for money in there and that was a crazy place. But then it went all studenty and Ikea wood floors. Its slipped a bit now and is a little rougher then it was a few years ago and a lot less students.

Used to be a good pub just up from the Ruskin Arms, on the corner had live music on a Saturday night, good pub band played a few metal anthems which was nice. The name escapes me now. But it doesn't matter cause it has shut down anyway.

There used to be another good pub down the Romford Road towards Manor Park where you could get a quiet game of pool, The Rising Sun, always empty on a Sunday morning with a couple of good pool tables, used to be a regular chill out/come down Sunday afternoon.

Thats probably enough pubs of Newham, missed loads of little goods uns, Bay Tree on Vicarage lane, Manby Arms on Water Lane and loads more dotted around the place.

Canning Town however is like that all the time :D
Aint that the truth :) I don't drink around here at all. Been here 4 years and have gone to each pub once, to check them out. Princess Alex, Beckton Arms, Red House, Ordnance Arms, etc. woudn't touch any of them with a barge pole for various reasons.

:( cos it's the first time in my life I don't have a local.

I thought the Red House was ok on the couple of times I went in.

Mind you, we were warned not to go into the back bar unless we were really Irish :D

At least you tried them out (even if the results were less than pleasing...) I'm not brave enough to step in!

Are those all the ones on Barking Road?

I remember going into one of them a few years back.

All the furniture was white plastic patio furniture, and I'm pretty sure all the bar staff were underage.

All but the Beckton Arms - that's at the other end of the Subway that leads you into Canning Town market (well, for me anyway as I live on the otherside). Some one was killed there a few years back - 1999 or so.

Edit: Yep - 1999: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/558849.stm

Beckton Arms was on Britains worst pubs, shitehole it is.

As is the Red House imo fogbat. Don't see the appeal whatsoever. They have an 'early bird' offer in there I've noticed, for those who like to start drinking as soon as it opens.
