Anyone ever lived in Germany?

Happens a lot to me even now, I think its just people wanting to show off their English skills a bit, it used to annoy me when I was lower down on the learning curve but now I'm ok with it.

I also had a hard time finding strangers to practice German with me, but my friends were ALL about it. Two of my friends in particular stopped speaking English with me except when I needed to gripe about my recent breakup.

I completely avoided english people when I lived in Germany and my German evening class comprised only other nationalities so the only language we could communicate with each other in was German. I immersed myself in it for 6 months and after that would say that I have fluent spoken German. My written German is less good.

That said my German was not good enough to find German comedy funny, sadly.
