BT haven't mentioned the problem on their status page but there are plenty of reports of it on the BT support forums.

Landline seems OK (dial tone)
Just sent myself a test email - ???? - not locked out, but still not got it after 6 mins ...... !
and still can't get some sites.

From the outage map - seems an urban area problem ?

still not got test email, but I've just tried the French site, and I can access it.

About 1220 the Beeb put a note up that BT apologises for the broadband outage this morning, but it was now *fixed* ........

Looks like BBC's sense of "breaking news" is as slick as BT's.

Major Broadband problem

We have now fixed the problem where customers were having trouble accessing the Internet on BT Broadband, or having issues getting to specific websites this morning.

Your broadband should now be working, If it isn't, try restarting your modem or router.

The start time appears to have been two minutes after it was resolved, meeting BTs usual levels of customer service....

Is it down or is it DNS? Try changing your DNS to googles DNS 8.8.4.4 and 8.8.8.8. See if it resolves the issue.

yup everyone take this as a reminder - DO NOT USE YOUR ISP's DNS SERVERS!

Instead use http://www.opendns.com/ or https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using
