Anyone else hate football?

I'll bet all the lil gobshites bitching about football are just middle class (or aspire to be) tossers who spent their lunch times discussing Terry Pratchet books or warhammer shite. people like that are the number one reason why i think bullying should be made compulsory at school, knock some sense into them.

On a more serious note football is such a popular sport because it is almost universal, it requires next to nothing to play and more to the point it doesn't involve gobshite Rugger buggers and their Hooray Henry ways.

At my stuck up provincial Grammar School (we still have the 11 plus in N.Ireland) the headmaster didn't allow us a football team because it was too common.

In other words, not men, or even men-to-be.

Science fiction and fantasy wimps, with pigeon chests, no doubt.

That's true. If worse came to worst, you could even play it with a severed head.

Which is why he turned into a weird existentialist, who spent his time sitting in a room in Algeria, thinking about his mother.

I wonder what his take would have been on the Zidane headbutt?

well yeah those geeks but it's little to do with stature or masculinity, football is one of the few sports that accomadates a lot of body shapes and sizes. I was about 4 ft 6 when I was playing at under 13 level (on the right wing, the irony!) and holding my own. Saying that once it got to under 14 and all the fuckers hit puberty and i dinae i got lumps kicked out of me and alas my dream to be the next Cantona was squandered, whilst that lil fucker Messi got bought growth hormones by Barca.

I coulda been a contender, a winner, one of the best........;)

As an French Algerian from a working class background he'd have loved it, as well as Cantona's karate kick.

I'm sure he'd have enjoyed a north african head knocking the wind out of an overpuffed Italian.

I don't know the karate kick. I only know stuff to do with the last world cup.

Eric Cantona was sent off and as he walked to the tunnel some wee racist prick started gobbing off so Cantona karate kicked him, pure class!

I hate football. Have had to put up with it for deccades and it bores me stupid. I don't care about the 'sport' or the macho bullshit that goes with it, or the non-stop marketing and advetising frenzy that it is tied in with. It's dull!

why is 'sport' and not sport?

Revol/noname - Your opinions demonstrate exactly the sort of prejudice I've got used to around football & why I'd have few problems with the game being eradicated.

Jhonny - I'd tend to agree that playing it with heads is better. Lock the stadia & let them fight amongst themselves for one too. That way, we might keep the shit where it belongs. :)

As mmmskyscraper said, men who dislike football are either fat or gay or both. Fact.
Well he was wrong about fat blokes - about 50% of football fans (esp. those that actually go to games) are overweight. Beer bellies represent a kind of machismo in the football fraternity.

But it's probably true to say that most gays don't care much for football - although some do, and I think that more actually do than would admit to it, but to do so would probably mean ostracism from the gay community. But a lot of women like footy because they're attracted to some of the players, and gay men are no different in that respect.

And of course there are gay players too, amateur and professional - there are even some openly gay amateur teams - although in the pro game very few ever 'come out'.

What's that got to do with morality?

I'm neither fat nor gay, and I don't like football.

But I eagerly look forward to the football season. Many a football widow wants a shoulder to cry on and some sympathetic conversation.

and what of the opinions of the more sensible football fans ? I haven't displayed any of the prejudice that your used to and neither has tangerine dream ( as far as I know I don't know what your prejudices are ) . Could you be suffering from that horrible afflicition of only acknolodging things that back up your existing opinion ! I ubderstand your experiences with football fans ( I remember reading your posts during the world cup ) but those experiences are not the same for everyone and every football fan is different . Some are utter twats but the majority aren't , you just notice the twats more which is unfortunate !

flimsier trots that one out with alarming regularity, and it's an amazing coincidence that it's always adjacent or close to a comment about football from me. If i didn't know better, I'd start to wonder if he wanted to make a point but was too spineless to do so directly :)

I'm relativly fat and I like football  maybe I'm deluded or something

Ah yes.... The really nice tolerant industry that is football...? Remember Justin Fashanu...? There at least is reason to dislike the "beautiful game"...

Then there were those into football.

I'm not much of a fan of Association Football, I much prefer Rugby or Cricket.

Dont hate it though, i enjoy watching the occasional match.

to be honest, i don't think rebutting flimsier and revol's childish fucking stereotypes is best served by inventing others :p

(even though you might have a point ;) )

Me being a proletarian hero was able to mix both. ;)
