Anyone else hate football?

I take all of your points on board but, unfortunately, I cannot reply to all of them. I can't believe how fast people post on this forum, I honestly can't keep up. The fact is, I dislike football. That's my opinion and it's not gonnna change. Like I said though, I don't dislike all football fans, only some, so I hope we can all get along amicably. :)

I dislike quite a few things but I don't seek out forums where lots of people post about my pet hates in order to make posts telling them that I dislike their thing. What would be the point?

I don't like football much. I used to quite enjoy playing it (though at my school it was effectively banned) and I don't mind the game itself. However, many if not most aspects of the culture around it are lamentable.

Yes, I'm talking about the boorishness, the barely sublimated violence, the greed, the inflated sense of self-importance, the cultural distortions caused by its force field and all that.

I've been to a few small-team matches that were passingly entertaining and had a good atmosphere, but being someone that doesn't follow the game, whenever football intrudes into my consciousness it's generally for a bad reason.

I won't tar the whole sport with the same brush and I don't think it's inherently bad. There are also many things that are far worse, but not sports.

Yeah, whatever, close the door of the Football/Sports forum on your way out, there's a good boy.

I apologise. The title of the section just annoyed me a bit. I have been on other forums and they have topics about this but, due to the nature of those forums, there tend to be less football fans there than there are here and I forgot to take that into account. I didn't realise I would be offending anyone. However, some people obviously agree with me slightly so there was a point to this.

No you are not. However, this is a moderately divisive subject on here so watch-it! :D

However, my own position is that whilst it is not my thing, I don't mind the game & whoever wants to play it but I truly hate all the baggage that goes along with it as I gerw-up around one of those estates where football defined just about everything about you & was very-mcuh the catalyst/reason/justification for all sorts of quite utterly appaling behaviour/bigotry etc. Later, I lived within spitting-distance of a premier League stadium for a while & got a bellyfull of the "fans" there too. Now I have no time for the game whatsoever.

No but Glasgow-based teams did & do feature in this. However I can't say a lot for the home support either.

I'm not really in the mood to go-off on one about football tonight. I've also said it all on other threads before anyway.

Here in this search, pages 2 & 3 in particular:

http://www.urban75.net/vbulletin/search.php?searchid=1891000&pp=25

Since then, I've also found-out that a friend is looking at recovering only 70-80% of function in his arm following a football-related attack on his bar (not a "team" pub in any way BTW) by a bunch of "fans" last month.

nice troll, got you lot jumping.

oh look, other people don't like something that I do. i care.

I don't hate football, just think its pointless... And I'm always confused why these mostly straight guys run around in groups playing often with someone-else's balls, and they have a quick hug when they "score". And then they head off for a group bath...

But still it keeps (many)straight men occupied and gives them something to talk about. Bless. :D

This is probably the first of your posts that I have ever totally agreed with, and it made me laugh :D

I added a wee bit coz I know loads of blokes that couldn't give a stuff about football.

I'm not being funny but can you expand?

Pogofish is in Aberdeen so I'd guess Pittodrie(I think)

As he says the violence that goes along with football(sometimes) has been discussed to death on here. True fans don't do that kinda stuff (and most people are aware of that) but for some reason you never seem to see associated violence with other sports(though I think cricket has had a bit of it in the last few years).

I'd rather hate poverty, child labour the trade balance deficit, the vast sums made by pharmaceutical industries....do you get my drift??

Jesus some people need to get a fucking reality check.

I don't enjoy football, and agree with an earlier posted who implied the vast sums spent on the stupid game would be better spent on dealing with poverty et al, - or,, perhaps invested in the darts, which at least doesn't require a perfect body and can be played by men and women at any age, from any walk of life.

In which case it isn't pointless, is it?

What about the role football is put to in keeping populations under the heel in some of the most exploited & deprived places here & abroad then? It is all part & parcel of the same thing IMO. :(

I don't know. Certainly, I've seen plenty of knuckledraggers whose dedication to their sport & actions is quite unquestionable.

I also hate the yobish masculinity of many football supporters. I realise that not all football supporters are like that but many are and they are giving the whole sport a abd name. Besides, I don't know why anyone would want to associate themselves with a sport where there are so many assholes (am I allowed to say that?) are involved. Why don't they just find another, friendlier, sport? That's what I did.

I also disagree with the huge amounts that footballers are paid and the fact that football gets way more money spent on it than probably every other sport put together. Come on, is it really that exciting watching people kick a ball around that we have to forget all other sports because of it? Think how much fairer it would be if all sports were treated equally.

On a related note, why is this section entitled 'football, sports?' Football is a sport so why not just call it 'sports.' Football is no more important than any other sport!

End of rant.

I think it's boring, but I don't hate it. What did it ever do to me to arouse that kind of anger?

As for the money, if football players can get someone to pay them millions to run around in shorts kicking a ball, more power to them.

just to clarify - i hate football. the game. all the other stuff - the money, the fans, blah blah blah - i don't necessarily hate that, that's simplistic, each aspect is a ready-made row in itself.

just the game, like. bores me shitless.

The part I can never understand, is how the commentators can get all worked up, and the crowd is screaming, but still, nothing is going on, just men running after the ball.

"He got the ball away from Antonio: phrooogghh!"

Perhaps. But that can be said about any sport when you look at it.

I mean when I watch baseball it appears that fuck all is happening, but I'm sure it's not that way to the spectators.

That's true, but in most sports, at least it's common to get points. From what I can tell, 0-0 is a common outcome of a football game.

Bo-oring.
