Anybody going snowboarding soon?

Looking at Arlberg/Lech/Zurs/St Anton for early Dec. Anyone been there?
I went to Lech a couple of years ago. (See further back in this thread). I was skiing rather than boarding. We had fresh snow most days which is what I like! There was plenty of choice of runs (for me at least) and it wasn't too crowded. I was told they limit the number of skiers and boarders to keep it exclusive. ;) I'll echo Wintermute's comment - it's catering for an upmarket clientele and the shops (Gucci, Prada etc) are ridiculous! It was expensive everywhere but had a relaxed old-school ski resort feel to it - very picturesque.

This year, I shall mostly be boarding in.... Verbier. Unfortunately that's the only trip planned, and it's not till Feb. I can see a couple of snowdome trips on the horizon, even though I don't like the bloody things.

Actually...St Anton for 5 days at the start of the season. Oh yes.

Will see if I can somehow wangle a new board by then...

Got my first turns of the year in this weekend

Went up to Cervinia for the day. A foot of fresh snow the night before on top of almost a metre during the week. Awesome for mid-November!

Got ski lessons booked this weekend in Oslo - cross country saturday, alpine sunday, really looking forward to it. Gonna be cool though, -12 or thereabouts.

Going back to Levi in Finland in January. Just ordered myself a new ski jacket, gator, two pairs of thermal socks and a base layer for £55. Getting excited now. Although may not be the same after going back to he dry slope for a practice in a couple of weeks.

Last time was my first time and we lost two days as it was -45 and you just iced to the slopes and couldn't move. Think I would have felt a bit more intermediate if I had been able to have those 2 days. As it is still feel a beginner.

There are a couple of others going with us this year who haven't been before, so hopefully they will make me feel better.

you should go to yllas too if you can, it's about an hour from levi - were the lifts working at -45 as when we were in saariselka at -27 the lifts were closed

we are off to the Puy de Dôme area in France in feb, it should be fab, driving there with the kids which should be better than last years drive to the alps which took hours to get through the tunnels

On the big main slope they were closed but I was on the little baby slope with burton lifts and I am not sure they ever closed :)

you should go to the free slopes - you have to get a bus there but it's really nice - think they call it the family slope

Yeah. That's where I meant. I only went on the main slope twice. Although I did have fun one afternoon on the mini run that is by the restaurant on the right of the main slope. It was steep enough to be a challenge for me but not too long to be intimidating ;)

have you seen the webcams - there is tumps of snow in levi

if you go for a fondu in tango one evening and then get some sledges and go up to the fifth post up on the main slope and go for it, make sure you have a helmet on and that you are headed towards the frozen lake at the bottom going towards tango - it's great fun in the dark but be prepared to crash

Just got back from a few excellent days in St Anton. Fresh snow, blue skies, empty slopes. Perfect.

But...it looked like the place would be rammed during the season and it'd be no good for beginners...some very steep blues.

I'm going to visit a mate in Vancouver over christmas, which is only 2 hours from Whistler.

It's probably going to be expensive, but hoping to get a couple of days in.

Whistler is awesome! (Yes, expensive, but well worth it). Bets place I've ever been boarding.

Don't forget there's places like Cypress Bowl on the edge of the city if time/money gets tight.

I went to Cypress yesterday. It snowed all day and I pretty much had the place to myself.

I rode for about 8 hours and I can barely stand today, but it was absolutely amazing! Nightboarding is so sweet!!

3 days in Whistler after christmas.

5 weeks to go before we go to super-besse and I have just booked 2012 ski holiday to Switzerland to a tiny alpine resort called Les Diablerets which has a glacier so no matter if there is no snow, we can still ski and it has a 7km taboggon run ;-)

Two weeks to go before I am in Levi. Went to the dry slope today to make sure I hadn't forgotten how to do it and was quite impressed with myself. Especially on the button lift. Only fell off twice. Hopefully I will come back from this holiday as an intermediate.

I thought I'd resurrect this as I've started making plans for this winter.
Working in Zurich a lot so I'm planning weekends in Laax (never been before) and St.Anton (been a couple of times) and am also planning a freeride adventure somewhere exotic to mark my last year as a 30something.
Has anyone been riding in Kamchatka or Georgia or gone with a Company called elooa?

This is #1 choice so far...

Whats generally regarded as the cheapest place to snowboard? I'm a complete novice and thinking of heading somewhere for a week in January.

We're taking the kids skiing for the first time. Going to Avoriaz in January. We've kitted them out in Aldi's finest and given them a couple of sessions at Exeter dry slope.

Can't wait
