ooh - you've just reminded me . I bought a tent on the net today. It was £75 reduced from £250. I hope it's not crap

I really want to go to woolfest but hadn't thought about camping. Mind you it's a 10 hr train journey for me and I wouldn't fancy lugging a four man tent all that way. But if I did someone would be more than welcome to have the spare bedroom :D

I'd look at that for me, but I specifically wanted one with a single 4 person sleeping area

I've made an initial enquiry to Wingham Wool... they have a classroom there and do feltmaking and stuff, so hopefully they'll have something good for us!

Keeping my fingers crossed they come back with a good answer!

Winghams workshops usually sell out pretty quickly - particularly the feltmaking ones they do at Glanamara or somewhere. We get sent all the details at the guilds. If there's enough of you and you pay for their B&B they'll come out and do workshops for you where you live.

Does that one not unzip into one compartment? I only found out after I bought that that they do an 8 berth one for £90 - that would have been much better for us

Hello - just found this thread.

I spin - but have only been doing it since april 05.

*waves*

what do you spin on? and what do you like to spin? i've been throwing anything i can bear to at the wheel (when i have a chance) and it's fun to see what happens (since i have pretty much no control yet, it just happens). i've spun some silk that's really fluffy and loose but i figured if i crochet it it should hold together fine. and i've got some alpaca i'm spinning raw, just combed, and it's so unbelievably soft.

mmmm wanders off into fluffy fibre dreamworld...

and on another tack any feltmakers? i'm wondering to include silk fibres in my felt without it all dropping off - any suggestions?

i warn you guys it's a slippery slope, you think you can stick with dabbling in knitting now and again but you soon move on to the softer stuff :D

*waves back* :)

I've got an ashford traditional and an old one which is made in Cornwall but I can't get bobbins for :( I'm about to buy an ashford country spinner 2nd hand off a woman at the online guild so I can spin chunky singles. I've got some poll dorset sheep and some shetlands (one is mostly jacobs). I've got so much dorset that I'm going to send it of to be scoured, carded and spun so that I can just space dye it and sell it on but the shetland is just so soft and lovely and such fab colours. I recently spun some soya - that was an experience. I'd do it again as it was uite nice when it was done and I did want to come up with a product that vegans could use. I might try some bamboo fibre next.
I'm just about to join the land guild - I haven't been well enough up until now but I think I'm ready to try. I've been a member of the online guild for a few months now and really enjoy their workshops and knowldege. This month we're knitting toe up socks and next month we're looking at colour (colour frightens the shit out of me) We did an alpaca workshop last september - it's lovely to spin and it felts like a dream. I made a bag and posted a pic of it here somewhere. http://www.urban75.net/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=3539406&postcount=21
I've always wanted to learn to spin but I can't believe how it becomes so all consuming so quickly :D

ooh lovely bag - it looks all sheepy, like it's about to wander off any minute.

i spun a bit of bamboo on my spindle, it was okay in a blend but i'm not sure i'd fancy it neat (kind of slippery and sticky at the same time, if that makes sense). i also had some non-spinning-related not-at-all-fun experiences with bamboo and glue so perhaps i'm jaundiced.

i learned to spin on a wheel with my local guild. they were great, quite traditional/staid many of them, and i had to make a concerted effort not to pay attention to anyone's dodgy dentures, but love of fibre transcends superficial differences :) i'm not great at getting out and doing stuff but i'm always glad i did when i do. which reminds me i should get to our next s'n'b.

i just made some toe-up socks, from a pretty much non-knitter's perspective they were so much easier than i expected. and if you're frightened of colour i'd highly recommend a set of food colours, a large bottle of vinegar and deb menz's 'color in spinning'. she can be very technical, but her basic colour theory and stuff is really enlightening.

and i am sooo jealous you have a neverending supply of free fluff. not fair

Woolfest looks fab - have just emailed our knitting group in Newcastle to see if we fancy a trip out, luckily Cockermouth not too far for us :)
