Any solutions for filing someone else's papers?

Back ups aren't much use when the person who stole your computer has access to your bank details and bills.

What if they just took your filing box/cabinet?
Same result?

:hmm:

How about:

Scan them
Back them up to flickr / picasa / similar account
Mark as private
Delete from your PC
Shred the originals

I'm paranoid. I would no less upload scanned copies of my bank details and bills online, even if marked as private, than I would save them on my computer. I do use internet banking, but that requires several safety checks to gain access. An online photo account doesn't.

If somebody REALLY want's your stuff they WILL get it.

If (and I am not) I was burgling you I would check your filing and steal anything I thought was of value.

In fact your second hand PC is probably worth less than your passport, bank details and stuff? In fact it is also lighter and easier to steal as well?

If you are REALLY paranoid then you could upload these documents to flickr (or similar) but not store the web address on your PC and clear your history daily. Either that or get a safety deposit box in the vault of a Swiss bank for all your filing and hope that it never gets robbed?

Tricky stuff this

;)

Or you could just file your paperwork safely in a locked cupboard. An opportunist burgler (and that's what most are) is much more likely to take your PC than to try getting into a locked cupboard.

Historically, I've had one 'household' accordion file that runs April-March for each year divided into bank/credit card/insurance/phone/utilities/tax etc

I've now got that as a personal one just for me, and gsv has suggested just ongoing separate folders for shared bills... I've just started to institute this with a folder for gas/leccy, but need to find some more spare folders (we do have some) for phone/comms, insurance and so forth. I think I can get away with starting this much off myself and he'll just have to lump it. :p
