Any really good uplifting or funny movies recomended

For "side-splittingly" funny I would choose from the following:
Anchorman:The Legend of Ron Burgondy
Airplane!
Blazing Saddles

They were all made by hollywood though.

You star. I was watching Employee of the Month on the weekend and he plays his date The Princess Bride and I found myself shouting out loud OMG The Princess Bride! I want to watch that now!

Can I recommend The Wedding Singer?
Especially good if you like the 80s (it was acceptable then don't you know).

'Starter for 10' is a quite good coming of age rom com too if you like that sort of thing.

V for vendetta cheers me up for two reasons.
1. Is that girl from star wars in a school girl uniform
2. i can't share with you as its a spoiler.

I second The Princess Bride and also The Station Agent. Whale Rider might fit the bill and also O Brother Where Art Thou.

A quick off top of the head list.

Angel A
Swing Girls
The Station Agent
Sideways
Rushmore
Bottle Rocket
Human Nature
Young Thugs of Kishiwada
Only Human

So what else have you watched since all the suggestions

Why not try something like Bringing Up Baby, Harvey, Monkey Business, Philadelphia Story.

They are Hollywood but they're Hollywood at it's best. They're just a few I can think of off the top of my head

Blazing Saddles or Young Frankenstein for pure silliness
The Shawshank Redemption for uplifting-ness (and tell me next time it really rains you don't have a vision of yourself, face up and arms outstretched!)

Everyone seems to be going for newer stuff, but if you haven't seen The Odd Couple, try and get it. I could it watch on a monthly basis and find it funnier each time. Walter Matthau's just one of those comedians - even before he says or does something you're laughing at the way he stands.

how about rushmore?..its a feel good film with excellent music..wes anderson the director worships hal ashby and you can tell! music moves the film the same way it does in harold and maude..all about a super eccentric and brainy high school student and his world..he falls in love with a teacher and despite this complication there is a happy ending..

its an indie film but widely available,it did well at sundance:D

i'm not stupid 2

- really, really good malaysian film. even better if you watch it with subtitles.
makes you laugh, cry, laugh and then real good.
