so when are you going to watch all these?

That Minnie is a very good question.

However, so far I've chosen 10 films from those suggested of which there's about 7 I'll definitely watch. Besides, winter with its cold dark evenings is just around the corner :)

I can be a pretentious bastard with a tendency to overly deconstruct and be quite scathing :D For that reason I generally avoid movies and reviewing :)
I have a housemate who does it for a profession (movies, books and art) and its turned her into a right old miserable arse wretch :D

The ones selected so far, in no real order of preference are :

Welcome to Dongmakgol
Raising Arizona
Sideways
Shower by Yang Zhang's
little miss sunshine
Dodgeball
Intacto
48 angels
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
La Science des rêves (The Science of Sleep)

The last two maybe not as the words teen culture come to mind

I'm generally rubbish when it comes to movies so, at the risk of sounding lazy, can anyone recommend some good movies please.

Anything other then the usual hollywood dross. Something side side splittingly funny or generally uplifting. I've just watched harry potter and I've had enough of scraping the barrel. :o

Besides I have a 24mb line thats rearing to go :)

Steve Martin Parenthood

i watched garden state a couple of days ago and really enjoyed it
Science of Sleep is very good and if you want something funny watch Little Shop of Horrors

not at all what you asked for but I watched lost highway the other day when I was bored and it scared me quite successfully! David Lynch innit :p

got it off www.videostored.com, loadsa stuff on there its streaming, free, wow

what about Groundhog Day - is that too hollywood or obvious?...always cheers me up no end.

even Andie macdowell's best efforts couldn't ruin it.

Seen that and it was okay.

Watched Dodgeball last night and it was truly awful, had to stop part way. Little miss sunshine faired a *lot* better but I couldn't help but feel a sense of despair after.

So probably should stay away from Hollywood :) Thanks for the lastest suggestions. I'll have a look later :) need to get out the suns shining :)

I can think of a book that would make a very uplifting film, but unfortunately no-one's picked it up yet. Come on, Hollywood, shape yourselves.

Bloody heck thats quite impressive animation and a good sound track as well :) Also, The blurb about uncovering the source of neurosis and anxiety sounds very applicable :D

Her alter-ego is a stunning and fearless 18 year old “dream detective,” code named PAPRIKA, who can enter into people’s dreams and synchronize with their unconscious to help uncover the source of their anxiety or neurosis.

The OP could try 'Miracle Mile'

If nothing else it is a fine example of what the Yanks are capable of if they stop being cuntish for a few minutes.

Donnie Darko is one of my top feel good movies. Not packed with laughs in any way but I like to smile along with Donnie and I love the ending.

The other 2 films that came to mind were American Splendor and Ghost World. Neither of these is a barrell of laughs either, (although both have some funny scenes) maybe I'm just a miserable sod.:D
