Any Radio DJs in da hoose?!

I hope no one minds if I link to a recording of my show.
Several Urbanites have asked me to upload it somewhere as they were unable to hear it live.

GTFM Debut Part 1-.mp3 - 20.63MB

GTFM Debut Part 2.mp3 - 7.55MB

GTFM Debut Part 3.mp3 - 26.80MB

Also grateful for any constructive criticism any of you have. Bearing in mind that its only my first ever broadcast.

Those links have live streaming so don't be put off by the file sizes. You don't have to download it to your PC to listen.

Your chat/banter seemed to flow nicely. Enjoyed some of the music too. Nice idea to kinda introduce yourself in that way.

Well done hun :)

Let us know when next one is? And when do we get shout outs/songs we want played? :p

My 3rd live show last night and my producer was sick. Which means nobody told me my scheduling had changed and that I had an extra advert break.

So imagine the scene. I que the intro for the IRN and end up with an advert running over the top of it for 5 seconds or so!!!!!!!

I panic and start trying to manually load the carts to get back on track which just made an utter mess of my log instead.

Damn you myriad!

I'm not having much luck with producers.

At least the station manager was pleased that I kept my head and was able to carry on the rest of the show seemingly unflustered. He said that some of the presenters wouldn't have been able to carry on after such a disaster due to being so freaked out about it. They would have effectively ended the show there and there and played a backup instead.

That sounds like a pretty professional set up.

The community station I'm on is run by a skeleton staff - no producers or anything! This results in a much lower quality output but there's really no option.

I used to do a show alone, but now I do it with another bloke - much better to have another pair of hands on deck.

There's also no real Quality Control, which means in order to learn anything, we have to listen back and properly critique our own show, which we're getting better at. There's no point starting with a ramshackle mess and not trying to sort it out a bit.

Also - we do the Friday breakfast show - that means up at 5.20 for the 6am bus into town.

It is. We have 3 studios and the station costs £106k a year to run. Was one of the first official community stations.

1 of the 15 that were part of the intial government experiement of allowing community radio.

I forgot to mention that to add to my errors last night I broadcasted my first F word too. Thought I'd screened all my songs thoroughly but missed the part in Novocaine for the soul where he sings Fucking with my head. Opps.

Thought I may have gotten away with it but the station manager did spot it. He must have ears like radar dishes.

Did my first request tonight :pleased face:

DJ before me fucked up the Sky News (didn't play it and started the local news 2 minutes early) so i had more time than i expected. Also the usual Entertainment guide i play was absent now I'm on a later slot. So I had loads more time to fill. Luckily I had brought extra songs with me just in case.

Then after me being so smug about tidying up after the other guys mistake i made the same mistake because i thought we went onto a whole pre-recorded loop at midnight but no apparently the radio station has a way of still playing Sky news automatically. Ooops!

I'd been doing so well until the end.

Its crazy how i get an adrenaline rush from doing the live broadcast marlarky.

I do a little out here from time to time. In fact I'm doing an English language show for a local station tonight. So far I've been asked to do guest slots on five local and two national stations.

I'm wondering if I could do a radio diary on a UK station using Skype.
I've hooked up a middle quality DJ mic to the computer via a small mixer and USB sound card.
Any one know of a station willing to test the quality?
