I've got one now and it's ....ok. Can't see me using the USM for any other reason than for games, which are expensive. Haven't upgraded the firmware yet. It's still 1.5. So I can surf da net and ting.

You can surf the web wth later versions as well. I thought buying games to play on it was the point...? Yes, with 1.5 you can put homebrew stuff on it and play Spectrum games on it, but why not try the new ones that have come out. Look, no colour clash...

Not trying to completely knock homebrew but I see little point in it.

(Btw, whats the "I wanna be a gangsta" language...)

Homebrew is class. I've been playing some of the classic Mega wads for doom on my PSP. These prove that its nothing to do with the graphics, its entirely down do level design.

Waiting for a hack to the PSP OS to disable the signed code system. Once somebody figures out that, its open season.

Surfing the net on a PSP is quite nice actually. Text input is ok, there's a simple button to bring up a menu. Entry is a bit like sms in that you have multi-tap keys. Wish I could take a picture of this in action and in *foucs*. Got a couple of pics here. (http://jayeola.org/BLOG/?p=118)

Took the PSP to work in the hope that I'd find and open network and read the "news", (honest). Takes a bit of time to find an open network in say, the West End of London. Signals get lost but you get reconnected fairly quickly.

Music is not bad on the PSP once you get rid of that AVLS so that you can actually hear stuff.

Games. Metal Gear Acid... <hooked/>

Someone has just decrypted the saved game from GTA and has been able to run their own code by changing the code in it. Why is has code in I cannot tell you? Last day or two this happened.

The guy who wrote the EBOOT loader for version 2 is a very happy man.

Watch this space.

Cool... At the weekend I bought GTA: Liberty City Stories & Wipeout Pure (a must get for PSP!)... I would like to run homebrew on my PSP but I'm not going to risk locking up what is already a very nice little device. Its a pity Sony can't let homebrew run without these hacks... Whats stop somebody putting some an O/s onto a UMD and loading from there...

My brothers' mate has stuffed his PSP full of emulators - snes, megadrive etc - pretty darn cool I thought.

Cheers for that! Interesting reading, still don't feel I made the wrong choice by buying a DS over a PSP though...

Not really relevant to this thread, but I was re-reading a back issue of edge the other day and came across a quote about the DS vs PSP debate that made me laugh

Biffo from Edge said:
"The difference between the DS and the PSP is the difference between a slightly dumpy, scruffy feller who tells the best jokes, and is kind-hearted and considerate, who you could take home to your mother, and a flash city boy who has zero personality, but works out at the gym every day, wears a sharp suit and would probably spit champagne in your mother's face then call her a 'working class whore.'"

LOL! Yeah I saw that one! Dint mean to bring up the vs thing but it's kinda relevant because the PSP surfing thing is something I considered when deciding between the two.

That's a top quote Fen Boy! The PSP sure is slick but I don't trust the firmware as far as I can throw it...if you know what I mean.

I think you have to have a licence from Sony to produce a UMD. Remember its not a cut down DVD though it uses DVD technology.

The great thing about this hack if (when) it becomes available is that it chances are that it will be firmware version free. Sony cant stop games working with new versions of the firmware.

If Sony decided to block GTA from running on the PSP I think they may as well give up on the portable gaming market...!

Well, these things seem to move swiftly, they have gone from knowing it can be done, through to a 'Hello world' demo to Tetris in the space of about 4 days.

The EBOOT loader developer reckons it will be possible to get his loader working, when that happens and things I am accustomed to working still work, I will be a 2.6 firmware man looking for a open wireless network.

Keep watching this space

PSP does do Wep, btw...

so whats the latest then? They have got stufff to run from the GTA exploit? Will we be seeing UMD and Snes Emulators anytime soon?

Roll on my 2 gig stick!

I got one last weekend as well. Only waiting to connect a USB keybord to it and doing some phonecalls via VoIP on it. That thing is marvelous and and steals lots of my time ....

People with iPods look plain stupid now, especially a Mr. twat called eminem in this stupid iPod ad what I have to watch before a movie starts.

Got that little gadget with it, beeing busy to recode some movies and access all songs from my bedroom.

Best thing on it, it hasn't an alarm clock either :D :D :D

Yeah that comment didn't make any sense to me either, how does the PSP being modded mean that people who have an iPod are stupid?
