Any film or TV show with American teenagers in it is rubbish

I liked American Graffiti.

I liked River Phoenix in Stand By Me and The Mosquito Coast.

There's other examples too :) :p

My So-Called Life and Freaks and Geeks were two great shows about teenagers.

A few films:

Carrie
Heathers
Harold and Maude
Rushmore
Election
Halloween
Clueless
The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane
Rebel Without a Cause
Mysterious Skin
Out of the Blue
The Wanderers
The Warriors

I think you're being a bit sweeping, but I hate all that American rich kid crap:

The Breakfast Club
St Elmo's Fire
Ferris Bueller's Day Off

etc

God.
What you mean is, you hate John Hughes.

I really like some of these films and TV shows, but I hated Blossom.

Mean Girls is class, though.

I think some of the Buffy cast were actually quite young, unusually - at least, I think SMG was.

Edit: no, looks like she was actually 20 when it started.

Suburbia.

Class film. :)

Also there's:

E.T
Donnie Darko
The Rules Of Attraction
Almost Famous
Brick
Dazed & Confused
Empire Records
The Lost Boys
Buffalo 66 (think Ricci was a teenager in that)
Near Dark

As for TV, I know it's a cartoon, but I always liked Daria as a pretty good slice of American teenagerdom.

Then of course there's 21 Jump Street... :o

Kids is brilliant.
It's not just about american teenagers but I'd say The Squid and the Whale and Thumbsucker.

'Brick' was one of the best films I've seen in a while.

Are there many good British teen movies out there? I can't think of anything off the top of my head...

Gregories Girl:cool:

the thing with The Breakfast Club is that it contains so many sections that, when viewed 15+ years later, make you die a little bit inside

the bit where goth girl is transformed into a Little House On The Prairie doll

the bit where the jock gets stoned and does the kind of dancing that, in millenia-old jungle tribes, was used to invoke many-tentacled demons who spew bile. he then shouts at a window and shatters it - because we all know cannabis gives you super-powers

don't get me started on The Lost Boys

i admit my initial premise may have been slightly sweeping, and thanks to everyone's submissions I have modified my theory to "any 80s American film or late 90s/21st century American TV show whose cast consists mainly of non-teenaged American actors playing teenagers is rubbish"

WTF?!

The dancing bit is the best part!

and the bit where the prom queen cries about how popular she is.:D

Sweet Valley High! I used to love it. Intricate plots, complex characters and beautifully acted.

(Encouraged to see Clerks hasn't been listed - hated it)

I love all those Eighties teen movies, I know they're shit but they take me back to being a young 'un.

The Outsiders

When I was 15 I thought this was the best movie ever, me and my mates all based our look and attitude on it :o

I used to hate Dawson's Creek.

The reasons:

They were all twats;

Having American cousins and visiting the country many times, I can say without doubt that no teens talk like 30somethings in complicated adult-like relationships in the US.

As a US teen would say "it sucks".
