Any DJS on ere ??

I still buy pretty much everything on vinyl, but alas i rarely have money to spend on music much anymore :(

If you REALLY want to you can always just add cracks and pops to your using one of several VSTs, so no one will know it's off a cd instead of vinyl ;)

Yep, and if you want the best quality, use (original, not made from mp3) CDs....

true to some extent; although CD sounds clearer and crackle-free, I've always felt that the bass is better on vinyl.

Not really, lots of artists do that with samples to make them sound like they've been resampled from somewhere else.

Equally it's used to give tracks that are bound for CD release a bit of that vinyl feel. Can be used for lots of things.

breaks.dubstep.breakstep

I haven't bought any records for tiiime and have only played out twice in the past 6 months though - might change musical tack altogether sometine in the near future . . .

The way I see it there are two DJ types: those that tend towards the MC, their main prerogative being to bring the tunes to the people (and are therefore more likely to play CDs) and the turntablists, who concentrate more on the art of mixing (vinyl generally being the sole medium). These respective strands are too different to compare head to head, I feel, and I know excellent examples of both. :)

In my case, I guess it's more of the former, largely because I can't afford to invest in record decks right now (I'm working on that ;) ) but it does feel fucking fantastic to crack out the vinyl when there are turntables around.

I use CDJ's and Vinyl. CD's is the way forwards :)

One small CD case with 1000's of tunes or a backbreaking record bag that once lost is gone forever whereas I have backups of all my CD's.

I'm vinyl til I die like coz the decks are like an extension of my arms and no matter how twatted I am I can still dj on pure instinct alone.

I've used cdj's, got nowt against them technically, and use them with decks so I can play unreleased tunes, but cdj only sets just wouldn't feel right somehow and it's all about the feeling innit. I'm not a turntablist scratch type dj either, I just know decks inside out back to front upside down I've dealt with every problem they can throw at me, know the fixes can do running repairs on the fly - I'd have to relearn that with cdj's, and I have a feeling that if they're fucked they're fucked, nowt you could really do to fix them at a gig if a drink got spilt on them or something.

I also have this thing about cd's getting scratched and doing that fucked cd stuttering thing mid set with absolutely no warning, at least with vinyl if it's scratched you can see it and be ready to bang the next tune on sharpish if it fucks up. Seen it happen quite a few times to people, and it really is the fact you get no warning at all that it's going to happen that fucks you up.

I'm fucking shit at looking after my tunes when I'm playing, there'll be piles of tunes all over the dj booth and I'd never manage to stop cd's getting scratched. Fuck knows how I'd manage at a beach party, every cd would be fucked afterwards.

been playing for 9 years, mainly breaks but bit's of techno, electro, daft punk style house, old skool classics etc. and I can more than hold my own with 99% of the bigger names I've played with. I filled in for the Stanton Warriors a few years back when they cancelled on us, and 2 kids were overheard when leaving the club saying what a class set the statons had played:D

It's very rare that I don't have a full dancefloor when I'm djing, and to my mind that's what it's all about:cool:

been running my own nights for years, under the name Freaky Dancing for the last 5 years, as well as 40-50 warehouse / beach / forest partys going back to the late 90's and I can pretty confidently say that we throw the best parties in Newcastle:cool:

I try not to take the piss on here plugging wise, but if anyone's ever in newcastle on the last friday of the month come check us out, ask for gav say you're off u75 and we'll sort you out;)

www.freakydancing.net if anyone's interested (hope this is ok with the u75 admin team)

i don't think of myself as DJ in the proper sense, i guess - by Acid Priest's definition, i'd be the former.. a selector / record collection DJ..

I'm definitely about trying to play the right tune - i can't mix, never really tried to learn, but i think i can fit tunes together well, read a crowd etc.

i feel self-conscious sometimes because I do a lot of gigs, some well paid, and i know there are a thousand people not getting gigs who can mix etc, but i guess for what i'm doing, enthusiasm, broad knowledge and a fuck of a lot of records is more important.

David Mancuso didn't mix but he's legendary, big up all DJs who know what it's really about ;)
