Antiworld 070707

Does not sound like (if you did pay) that it was a great investment!

Too many festivals?

the general feeling is that the promoters are scamming cunts... badly organised festy, poor sales, bad people management. All the security and medical staff walked on Sunday when it was clear they wouldn't get paid :(

i was reading all that stuff on festival weather yesterday. Antiworld have a bit of a bad rep in the past for not paying people (alegedly i might add ;) ), and generally not being the most popular promoter around. can't see this is going to help them, wonder if they will ever properly recover tbh..

It seemed like a pretty ambitious project – Antiworld puts on big parties, but it's still quite a leap from that to putting on a festival.

By the sounds of it, a lot of the big name acts that were promised didn't turn up and even when they did, no one knew when they were on...

but the reason they didn't turn up is because they found out they weren't going to get paid..

I deffintely think they aimed to high. iirc glade festival only started with a 5000 capacity, and that was with the whole history of doing a stage at glastonbury. There's too many festivals around now too. If you want to make an impact, spamming every forum in the world isn't going to be enough to sell a minimum of 10,000 tickets

mmmm, erm, so where to start,

our group did have a good time from thurs night to sunday lunchtime. but with good weather, drink, drugs you can have a reasonable time anywhere.

there was some good drum n bass, and tho not my thing, the rest of the group enjoyed the psy trance/techno. the chill out tent was good, and the arty/chilled tents such as fish seeks bicycle were nice aswell.

the site was dry, and there was a good mix of food choice. one bar, but we managed to bring in many crates of scrumpy jack.

now, the nitty gritty.
the festy was meant to be 15,000 people, but only 3000 - 5000 bought tickets. the number of stages was downsized from 7ish - 4. we dont no whether it happened cos of lack of ticket sales, or it the council made it smaller. various rumours. so each day involved walking from tent to tent looking for a line-up. i nearly missed mix master mike (good set) cos of this. Now cos of this down sizing certain acts just didnt play, some of our group wanted to see pendulum and i would have like to see the freestylers. neither showed, so sat night was random acts. luckily mdma helped tho, oh and glow stick creations. anyone see the ball of glowsticks we had?
but still we had a good few days.

and then sunday, well, like i said at the top of this post, where to start, so many rumours.
about lunchtime we were chilling out in the shade of the big main tent, some of the boys were juggling with randoms. Then the music stops and its announced the stage is to shut. Everyone looks at each other in confusment. we look over to the big main outdoor stage and see people walking away. so for the next few hours we sat around in the sun, eating, juggling, chilling and hearing various rumours as to what had happened.

1) too loud, festival shut down
2) sewage leak, environmental health shut festy
3) not enough stewards turning up for shifts. didnt no about money situation.
4) up at the crew/staff kitchen something was spilt so, despite being a good distance from the actual site, environmental health shut festy
5) similar to above but sewage from the toilets was dumped somewhere in-correctly up at the crew/staff area, so environmental health shut festy

this left sunday with no music. and sunday was the day i was looking forward too the most thanks to the supposed ninja tune stage with coldcut, hexstatic, dj food, etc.
a couple of our group thought it would be good to head home, so we packed up and hit the motorway, dj food on the stereo, head not in the right place. evening chilling listening to Aim at a house and eating pizza. not ideal.

was that the first and only antiworld? could well be...

It's been common knowledge that enrico antiworld is a twat for about 7 years . . . I'm not at all surprised that this happened - roll on Glade . . .

Glad you caught Mix Master Mike, I only saw him by accident but was really impressed. Amazing skills.

Hmm the combination of a shonky promoter, overambitious site, too much psy trance and ketamine never exactly did fill me with confidence about this venture.

Still, if it means that there's less psy trance, jugglers and those poi twats as a result of Antiworld's collapse then some good may come out of this.

Fookin' hell:eek: I sold my Antiworld ticket two weeks ago so I tgink I got off very lightly, especially as I was driving from Edinburgh, taking time off work etc.

Quite simply a masterclass in how not to run a festie. Apparently he'd sold 3000 tix, same as Glade in their first year but they started small and built it up (thinking he was going to sell same no. of tickets as Glade in their fourth year with all the good will the Glade has was madness on E's part)
Wot a shambles:mad:

my mates was booking for one of the tents and got his head kicked in and needed stitches by one of the acts he booked who Enrico didn't pay

nice

Why am I not surprised ... ? ;) :(

Fuckin shambles by the sound. I was idly thinking about going down for Saturday or some of it, but tbh expense issues got in the way, and Ambient Picnic on Sunday was more of an easy attraction.

Glad I didn't touch Antiworld with a bargepole now ....

I couldn't see the need for a 3 day psytrance festi. Its boring after 20 minutes.

I could also see that coming. Didn't they fuck up that one in the Devon country side a few years ago when they had the all the punters making some dash across the country to Essex only to be busted again or is that someone else? Can't remember.

I think that was Liquid Connective in 2003 when the police sec63'd it a couple of hours before it was mean't to start.

I got the impression -- wrong?? -- that Antiworld was NOT all psytrance.

Liquid Connective, not a valid comparison I'd have thought. The trance hippies were running a sublegal party (been to a couple in town in the past).

Antiworld was licensed surely, but when key crew/staff walk out from not being paid, I guess the festival ends up breaching its own licence conditions ....

The promised line up was wicked - quite eclectic, lots of breaks, Coldcut etc, not just psy. Problem was only a fraction of the DJ's ended up turning up after not getting paid up front. Can't blame them.

Well theres lots of *rumors* and he said she said being bolted around tbh

I went there Friday afternoon, had two good nights and a somewhat messy day in between. I was leaving Sunday (due to a funeral on Monday morning) so the Sunday close-down did not bother me that much.

We all spent Saturday night in the Pendragon tent, which was good fun.

There are sooooo many "reasons" being given as to why it closed down, but I can't help think that the lack of money to pay people is the real "cause" in one way or another.

I got our tix very early for only £70 anyway, and there was plenty of music that I liked, so maybe did not feel as ripped off as some did.

Giles..
