    Hey all,

Antiuniversity Now 2017 will be taking place from the 10th to the 16th June.

Antiuniversity is a radical education experiment that attempts to counter exclusive and hierarchical education systems by creative democratic, actively counter oppressive peer to peer learning and sharing of knowledge, through a week of events. Everyone is a student and everyone is a teacher at Antiuniversity.

Check out our programme! Its massive.....

and seeing as theres no hierarchy I'd like to know what happens if people are talking in class over people who are teaching, how does that work??

It's a bit unfortunate (when your organisation seems to centre around the idea that traditional, teacher-led learning is unnecessary) that your post is rendered rather incomprehensible due to lack of punctuation.

    I think you meant:

"Antiuniversity is a radical education experiment that attempts to counter exclusive and hierarchical education systems by creative, democratic, actively counter-oppressive peer-to-peer learning and sharing of knowledge, through a week of events."

I'll admit that the missing hyphens in "peer-to-peer" weren't a huge problem for understanding. The missing comma in combination with the missing hyphen in "counter-oppressive", however, had created something of a word salad.

The whole thing would probably be clearer as two sentences, on reflection.

"Antiuniversity is a radical education experiment that attempts to counter exclusive and hierarchical education systems. It uses creative, democratic, actively counter-oppressive peer-to-peer learning and sharing of knowledge, throughout a week of events."

But what do I know? I'm just a teacher. Sorry for oppressing you.

    Although...

The proliferation of vowels at the start of "Antiuniversity" is troubling me. In such cases it's pretty standard in UK English to hyphenate: "Anti-university", or even, given it's status as a name "Anti-University". I hope you'll agree that this is visually more impactful, and makes the meaning of your neologism more clear.

Of course, if it's a North American organisation by origin, they would never use a hyphen, but thankfully it's quite acceptable over here.

I went to one of these events previously (at Hackney Archives) and it was great.

I got the impression that the organisers were genuinely interested in providing a platform for people to share ideas and learn about stuff that had perhaps not had a great time at school (like me).

I'm not going to defend the OP
coming here and spamming up the place but I think it is an interesting idea.

I'm sure some of it will be complete wank. That's the nature of these things. But if you're not interested, don't go...

I agree. I think it looks good. I like the idea of people trying to take learning out of exclusively formal spaces. Some of the sessions look pretty intriguing.

It was called "occupy the archives". Started with a discusssion on radical/black histories (and how to ensure they are not forgotten).

Then the second half was a good look at some of the archive's holdings of that nature.

I spoke to one of the anti university organisers afterwards and she told me approvingly about an event they'd had the night before where black youth discussing the police had got a bit lively.

Ive absolutely no problem at all with community shared learning schemes. It's just that this one's overstated political ethos, and blanket negativity towards formal education and educators, sticks in the craw. Plus, the OP was a word salad.
