Presumably he didn't want to use 'anti-semitic' because he is also semitic and so doesn't think it makes sense to apply the term just to Jews. Just guessing.

Christian and Catholic communities will not discrimnate(except maybe behind closed doors) against any other religion and they are the majority of the European community
I can't think of any reasons other than that the Jewish people don't have their own country and the religion itself(by the religion itself i mean like sunnis and shi'ites or catholics and protestants)
