Some striking images from Brazil in protest against FIFA and the World Cup.. I'd be a liar if I was to say I wouldn't be watching the games, but it's disgusting what FIFA have done/continue to do and will do in the future to line their pockets.
1%er what's the general atmosphere like at the moment is the presence of protesters being swept under the carpet? and does it look like there will be a lot of disruption during the finals?

Sorry for the later reply but I only got back from Cuba last night and didn't look at the site while I was there.

It still seems that most people are in favor of the cup but many of them will still support the demonstrations. As I said elsewhere, it is all going to be how the demonstrations are policed. If the police use their usual heavy handed tactics they will just bring more people onto the street.

The protests are all on the TV, I haven't had time to catch up, but the Sao Paulo tube drivers strike seems to be the big news, there were also police strikes.

Demonstrations are a way of life in Brazil, people go to the streets all the time. Most demos are social events as well :)

What was very clear to the politicians and the police during the Confederation cup, if the police and army (as they are also deployed) get violent the people will respond. What were normal size demonstrations during the Con-cup soon turned into the biggest street demonstrations for a generation, the reason for that was the police violence.

One thing is for-sure, there will be 1,000's of demonstrations during the world cup and the vast majority will be peaceful.
