anyone know if medical treatment in Russia is purely private or is there free medical care?

a quick google shows up that its not a shining example of how a medical system should be run but doesnt say if its free at point of use or if its paid for.

just asking as the OP says that

Basic care is free, "extras" (surgery, medication etc) cost extra.
