I want to support the unions, but they do not even want to support their members.
I completely empathise with your point view Awesome.
I have found unions to be toothless tigers in the past. Unfortunately for the masses the TUC and the union movement, however crap and infiltrated and sold out it is. I believe is the only national movement that could be steered towards a meaningful mass stand against all the wrongs that are being thrust upon us in these dangerous times.
Please try, as I have to engage with the TUC and the union movement. Employed or not.
I have found the National shop stewards network (NSSN) to be very very switched on. They seem to be understanding the reality of peoples predicaments and seem to want to try and influence the TUC to be more accountable. There are efforts however small to attempt to provide alternative formally organised movement for change.
It is possible that after the massive response to the match for an alternative in 2011 that the TUC fears being outlawed by the establishment. This is entirely possible if we consider what may have happened had the event been much less peaceful. Having been there whilst the Ritz was defiled and many other public order situations were taking place amidst such a huge protest. I am sure that a shudder was sent up the spine of Westminster etc.
The riots that plagued London later were, I feel, an anti climatic response by the youth that expected more from the mass protest that they experienced. The shooting of Mark Duggan acted as a catalyst to release the pressure already built up by the zeitgeist of protestation at the establishments mistreatment of the populace.
I am honestly surprised that there hasn't been further significant unrest.
Perhaps the british people are as lame as the establishment thinks we are. Personally I find this sad and quite frustrating.
