Anthony Gormley - A Challenge?

Mrs Miggins said:
I agreed that she probably had a point but his figures make me feel contemplative because of their "emptiness" rather than frightened. But therein lies the wonder of great art - no? Individual interpretation and multiple meaning....

Maybe she has a problem with "alone" and "quiet" which is what many of his works are

Totally. That is the beauty of good art IMO. In this instance it encourages self-thought.

Don't want to go further for fear of spoiling others pleasure!

Well the H&S bods had a point. I stupidly went into some wet sand to see one of the figures up close to see the sea from 'his' perspective as it were, and was up to my knees in miliseconds. Quite scary actually. Didn't go down too well in the pub afterwards either, being covered in wet sand and mud

Yes! We were brought up on those sands and it's school stuff not to go out when the tide has just gone out, but only to those who have had it drummed into them. Other people don't know. So yes H&S aren't always interfering bastards. To bring a hideous thing up, it's the same tide there that did for the cockle pickers in Morcambe.

And if Another Place was all formed in his own image then he's got a disproportionately large cock.

did you see them when people had put tinsel round the cocks at christmas?;)

I had a quick zoom round the South Bank yesterday to see if I could spot a few of these. They're quite distracting when you're driving! I'm not sure what the work is Saying, but it's fun trying to find them.

I love the way people appropriate and adorn his works. Remember when some Newcastle fans managed to throw a massive Newcastle shirt over the Angel of the North?

i was down at the south bank yesterday, enjoyed the statue spotting, was goingto go to the exhibition but there was a big queue, so i'll go at a less busy time, i want to go in that room of mist, later as i was on my way home, stopped in angel, and gormley walked past me, spooky or what:D
