Do you want to stand on Gormley's Forth Plinth?

Antony Gormley's project for the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square will take place in July, and you can register your interest in taking part from TODAY.

http://www.oneandother.co.uk/

2400 people will stand on the plinth, one person for one hour at a time over 100 days.

Do you want to do it? And what would you do with your hour? :)

Me, no I don't...

And what's more there is no way they will persuade anybody to stand up there at 03:00 am on the thirteenth day / night when there is absolutely no one around to show off to.

So its made of fail basically.

He should have made a proper statue rather than try this poncey shiit!

If were going to do it, I'd prefer a slot in the night when it was quiet - the idea of being surrounded by tourists would be grim. It'd be more of a meditation than a chance to show off. Sunrise would be cool.

I think it's a really exciting idea.

I would!

I wonder if you'd be allowed to wear a sandwich board with a mesage on it? :hmm: :D

or do some yoga lol

You can do anything that's legal apparantly :D and take anything up there that you can carry. Sandwich boards should be fine!

What's special about 3.00am on the thirteenth day?

There'll always be people willing to do it. People love attention. Just look at all those flash mobs. Maybe a flash mob will invade the plinth :D

Someone could go up there with loads of placards for U75 and see if the website crashes under the weight of loads of new registrations ;)

"Hundreds of people will get the chance to become a work of art on Trafalgar Square's fourth plinth later this year.

More than 2,400 people are needed to stand on the plinth over 100 days as part of Antony Gormley's living artwork, The One and Other."

BBC News

Heard about this earlier. Live 24 hour streaming on the Sky Culture Channel. (Didn't know they had one.) You have 1 solitary hour up there, to do anything you like. Well anything legal.

What would you do?

I would. I'd just sit up there and read a book. Take a couple of photos. Make a few friends. Make cocktails. Smoke a few tabs.

Lie down, so as to invisible from below.

It would be my definitive statement regarding the fate of the individual in NL's Brave New World.

I've been wondering what to do for my 40th birthday... was thinking of hiring a gite in France or a camping barn in the Peaks or Lakes or the South West... maybe I should just take a huge big birthday cake up there, get everyone in Trafalgar Square to sing happy birthday to me, and then blow the candles out, then cut the cake up and dish it out? :hmm:

Sorry, FOURTH plinth

There's another thread in London http://www.urban75.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=281393 but just had thought to take a hammer and chisel. Nice block of stone :)

Missed that. But it's a UK thing really. It's a great concept.

I'm still thinking. Loosely prepared drunken rant. Randomly throw down paper airplanes with written instructions obscured from the camera, to any passers by.

Like Alex's idea, watching the stream on a laptop. The ultimate self refferencial mockery.

Don't forget with all your fancy plans people ..

.. you would probably be allocated the 04:00 am slot when its dark and cold and the only people who are watching are pigeons!

Right, if Anthony Gormley wants me to be a work of art for an hour, I want to know how much I will be paid for that hour. So called 'fame' for one hour standing still in cold London is not enough on its own. I need my time to be paid for and my transport costs paid. Details on application.

If however they can afford me, I will take photographs of the scene, the buildings and the crowd. Those photographs will remain my property and copyright. That is the best deal I can offer.
