anthea turner -perfect housewife

Obviously thinks she is not getting her share of the limelight so posts something 'controversial' for the look at me outrage.

Stupid cunt.

Seems whatever it was has gone.

By the way, Jesus, this thread! I didn’t realise how much things had changed in the intervening years.

Sample post: PK “Perfect housewife??? - didn't she leave her husband of 8 years??”

FFS.
I find the contrast pretty heartening tbh. There's still a lot of unconsidered misogyny about, even on here, but it's absolutely the case that things have improved, and it takes reading stuff like this to remind us.

I always got her confused with Carol Smile.

(I used to bump into CS quite a bit in Glasgow, she would always be the last person to board the flight - on whatever cheap airline I could get flights on - so everyone would see her. She also used to sit in the window at a cafe in (I think) Nithsdale Road in Glasgow and then make faces, or have a go, at anyone who looked at her.)

Yeah, I've only been here a few years, and had a glance at this thread as it caught my eye. Was the forum all like the first page of this thread 15 years ago?!

There was definitely a lot of it about, as it's noticeable in a lot of bumped threads - although at the time there was also what I recall to be a vigorous and vocal radical feminist strand to the boards - I'm sure at this point there was even discussion of a women-only subforum. So it doesn't give the whole picture.

I have about half the sub-forums on ignore and only really look at P&P, with some brief forays into other bits sometimes, so I probably have a hugely skewed impression of the boards generally.

I in no way want to absolve myself. I was just observing that the culture has changed. It's interesting to be able to make these comparisons. Throwaway daily workplace chatter didn't used to be preserved in the way that bulletins boards have allowed. I don't want to condemn - on the basis of something frozen for 15 years - people who may have developed. I hope I've developed. And will continue to do so.

However, at the time I joined (19 years ago this month), this place did seem to have a strong feminist current. I don't think that was just "for the time". I think it was really there. But I'm also heartened to see that the casual misogyny that was part of the everyday back then would look more out of place here now.

With the perfect housewife show, maybe she can also claim to have inspired the Mrs Hinch phenomenon?

I watched this once and I am ashamed to say that I have adopted one of Anthea's top tips namely rolling up broadsheet newspapers and slipping them inside knee length boots so they keep their shape when you're not wearing them. I have avoided the programme ever since in case I absorb any more of her housewifely wisdom.
Given the decline in physical newspapers this tip now appears more like one of those programmes where a family re-enacts living in The Old Days. Though it must have been hard enough finding a broadsheet newspaper in 2006.
