Another technical question - this time about a stereo..

it doesnt affect the radio cos the karaoke mode is only for the cd and tape player.

from the user manual you need to do this:
sony manual said:
When you are done
Turn MIC LEVEL to MIN and disconnect the
microphone from MIX MIC, then press
KARAOKE PON/MPX repeatedly so that
“h” disappears.

the "h" should look like a little microphone symbol

page 32

I'll roll my eyes at whoever I like, laddy

Did you see the first episode of series 2 of skins? There's a woman, Maxxie's mum, who helped Tony get his cock out. There was a hint of sexual tension. That's how I think of you.

That's a compliment, by the way.

Thanks, we tried that.

It didn't work. :(

Would it be the speakers then that are the problem? It sounds like I'm right next to the band (they are clear as anything) but that the singer is in the next hall.

I don't know - he only put Radio 2 on it for me......

Oh dear, sounds serious. :(

All's not lost, it may not be buggered. It's just it may be buggered. Or I may just be jumping to conclusions.

Faff about with the karaoke feature as per electroplated's instructions to see if that helps, if nothing else it'll be fun for a short while.

Are both speakers working?

Sounds to me like you may just have one channel going.

Have you listened closely to each speaker?

e2a oh sorry I see the radio is fine, so that takes care of that (assuming you were listening to FM)

Missing earth in the speakers ?

And / or wired out of phase ?

Is the bass also missing ?

Put Fleetwood Mac "Rumours" on and play "Dreams"

(that was my standard "Hafler" test - Stevie Nicks's dreamy echoey voice - phwoaarh :o)

Prior to fancy electronics, wiring extra speakers without an earth was all we could do.

Would you mind explaining what extra speakers without an earth connection do? My ignorance of speakers / hi-fi electronics is pretty much complete.

You tend to end up with the ambience from a stereo recording - which tends to end up as the difference between left and right - or something ... perhaps only from vinyl ....

To be honest I never had much success - mainly because I've never had a room big enough to have the luxury to sit in the middle of - and once I'd bought Quad electrostatic speakers, two channels were plenty - properly set up it's almost like wearing headphones ....

Hurrah! It's working!

I thought you might like to know that my friend (the one who set it up) has just been round to look at the stereo and apparently, while we were sleeping, the dog snuck in and took the speaker plugs out of the back of the stereo and replugged them into the 'surround' socket.

:hmm:

Anyway, it's now working perfectly. :)

I asked you if the speakers were plugged in!!!

They were plugged in.

Just not in the right holes.

Nowt to do with me, it were one of those bloke creatures that did it.
Yeah but it was the speakers wasn't it? So, I was more right than all those tecky blokes saying 'Push all the buttons and see what happens'

Yes dearest. You were indeed. :)

In future I shall direct all my technical queries straight to you.
