here we go again...differing moralities
everyone gets that little thrill when they realize the bus conductor's not going to come and collect their fare....should you go and demand to pay? of course no one does that....
most people have jumped on a train without a ticket because they were about to miss it and didn't have time to buy a ticket....or forgot their money that day and most people don't see that as evil..
to leave the house with no intention of buying a ticket and just paying the penalty fare on the rare occasions you are caught is a policy that divides the house....are you winning one over on the oppressive state/corporate monster or failing to maintain the moral standards that society relies upon to function?
if we want a fair society where the haves help out the have-nots people surely have to play by the rules. Why should I vote for a socialist party (if we had one) in order to ensure a good safety net for the less fortunate if it only encourages scroungers to live on the state etc etc? Why should you pay for an expensive ticket every day when the service is so shit and it's just generating profit for some dubious train operating company?
It always seem strange that the people that seem to want the state to do the most, and to have some utopian socialist society, also seem the ones that don't see wrong in not paying for their train ticket, don't have a problem with theft from Tesco (but do from little old ladies).
it's a old familiar argument here, just like the "should I have a maid/houseboy?". It makes me all nostalgic, like listening to the Archers or the shipping forecast, I love it
