That's bollocks, was Pires against Portsmouth not a dive then?. Because there was contact there.

No there bloody wasn't! Dejan drew the foot back as Pires flarruped himself down.

What I meant was Pires sticking his foot out so that there was contact, no difference to what Johnson does, except Pires was more blatent(and foreign).

Ah right.

That's like what Corradi got sent off for doing. That's cheating no doubt.

Contact initiated by the defender, impeding the attacking player in control of the ball = penalty.

The Pires thing still fucking winds me up

And Zokora

*explodes*

fair play to Moriniho. He's admitted he's a full of shit cunt!

:)

Did he use those words?

If he did, he's just gone up in my estimation. Good to see his idiomatic use English coming along too.

Have A little bias cos he done good for Palace. But the fact is he's not a big chap, very quick. Doesn't take a lot for some hoofing centre half to knock him off balance. Why should he fight gravity more than any one else. Michael Owen doesn't. Most similar strikers fall when caught in the box.

I am bored senseless by Moron-o's ceaseless whining. He makes Fuckerson and Whinger look like good sports.

Yes he's a fucking bore now. Bleating on and on about things like this with no trace of irony. Porto Vs Celtic e.g. At least he's had the grace to appologise now. Probably to save embarassment. Til the next time anyway.

Because they can get away with it generally? Much like footballers are often seen talking back to the referee, whereas as in many other sports you'd been penalised or sent off in near instantly. Johnson's perhaps not the worst offender, but he does suffer from (A) flinging himself onto the floor at pace like Ben Johnson with broken legs and an ear infection and (B) some of his supporters acting like he's whiter than white when he most obviously is not.

Football is still (just about) a contact game - it's nonsense to suggest that the merest contact should really be a foul and penalised. Even 'no-touch' sports like netball and basketball cater for that issue. Players have a duty, imo at least, to try and retain their balance and score by fair means if possible, rather than resorting to collapsing on the floor and trying to win a foul. Football's also a game where low scorelines (compared to basketball etc) mean that 'cheating' a goal can often decide a game's outcome.

Love the implication that I'm not 'honestly approaching' this 'debate,' as if I have some particular interest in Everton or sullying Johnson's name. I haven't - I'm a disenfranchised ex-Wimbledon fan who's about as impartial as you'll find on these boards, latent dislike of MancuntUtd aside.

Johnson is a diving bastard, whether you and Everton fans want to admit it. It's whether he's consistently worse than a whole bunch of cheating, diving numpties that's a moot point.

Please, then, point to an instance of him diving.

Is allowing yourself to fall the same as diving? Splitting hairs possibly. But I think there's a subtle difference.

There is a subtle difference perhaps, but the effect is the same. 'Allowing yourself to fall' or allowing contact to become a dive is a good description - it's where you make no attempt to keep your balance or exagerate the effects of any touch- like diving it is designed to con the referee and gain a foul. In some ways I prefer the blantant, unapologetic divers over the 'the slightest touch sends me spinning over and I can't possibly stop myself' brigade - there's perhaps more integrity/honesty about the approach of the first group.

Do I really need to mention a specific example of Johnson 'diving' to know that he's culpable of trying to con the referee Agricola? A little bit of sporting knowledge and experience of collisions at pace should tell you everything you need to know - watch Johnson a few times and it's almost impossible to believe than any sportsman could be just that uncoordinated as soon as contact occurs. It's a wonder how he can score any goals with balance and poise like that. Maybe he should work on running (and standing) technique in training if he's really that bad...

He was at it all the time at Palace and Birmingham. He's calmed it down a bit recently but he's still a diving cunt.

let them hate so long as they fear: that the RS plastics attack AJ so is a sure sign he is back in goal-scoring form. Good!!

Again, being a bit of a Palace man, I am probably biased, but imo he is no worse than anyone else. He is small and v quick hence he is easy to knock down. He obviously will try to avoid contact with the opp goalkeeper etc. That's why he falls over. If someone who plays like this gets a reputation as a cheat, it's a shame. Perhaps he should just clatter into other people and not care if they are injured?
