More mindless nonsense from L&L's replacement.

Go fuck yourself, trollboy

Ok, aaah, that was nice. Just fucked myself....well, figuratively speaking....with the absolute shite I read on these boards from you Nino.

You troll everytime you type your password in when you log onto Urban mate...I'm just plain honest about my views, whereas you have nil tolerance for the opinions of others.

ROFL - As of Miners were ever anything other than grim faced and moody. Muppet.

At this rate, you'll be digging your own grave. Keep it up.

can you stop following me around please?

Fucking troll.

I think if anyone were to look at the last 8 or 10 posts that you've made, they'd see that it was you following me around. What they'd also see is the deliberate attempts to troll and disrupt threads.

Carry on, you're digging yourself deeper.

I have opinions - - You have abuse.

This isn't news Nino...it's just that I don't stand for it, whereas others let you off the hook.

Get a life, man. FFS.

Still following me around....how pathetic. You must have a pretty sad, shitty life to get your kicks this way: as an internet toll.

Your "opinions" are deliberate attempts to troll...isn't that right, ern?

An internet toll?

I don't charge mate!! My smart observations are for free.

You, on the other hand, spend your time and broadband subs on being a cunt.

Now fuck off and leave me be

Nice try, trollboy. But you've been sussed.

do you reckon if you say it enough, people will believe you?

You're known for oozing snide and disparagement mate. Leave it out - and I will ask for the last time....stop harassing me and trolling my threads.

I had a problem with the way the miners strike was presented, particularly the way footage (shot by the police) from Orgeave that was used to paint a picture of surly miners throwing objects at the 'hard pressed' police.
(a) Why would a BBC production use police film when it has it's own footage ?

(b) Marr did state the numbers present (police out-numbered the miners and those 'with' the miners)

I'm more surprised by those who assumed Marr was anything other than an old skool leftie. I've never heard a single word from him or anyone else to support what people in this thread assumed to be the case (that he was and is a Tory).

Let's not forget the right think he's a stinking leftie!

I think his series is absolutely superb and very well balanced.

Nino's upset because the Central point in his Political Spectrum is somewhere between the SWP and the CPGB.

What a  pic of Mandy with a 'tache! Looked like:

innit

But in 50 years time we'll be fond of it I reckon :)

I'm not knocking it! I find music really helps (me) to locate a particular time. It's a pretty simple device though. :)

last night's was the one i liked least. i suppose it is the period that i remember most of. the 70 and 80s i found most enjoyable as i was too young to remember or understand what was going on at the time.

It made me smile with Bitter Sweet Symphony playing in '97 when Labour finally booted out the Tory scum. Let's just hope we don't let that cunt Cameron get into power.

what is it the BBC are trying to achieve; it might well be pleasantly pitched, but this isn't a 'History of Modern Britain' (as claimed) it's an insanely paced highlights of the highlights infotainment package, isn't it ?

I must admit, one of the episodes I saw did tend to stick to the tried and trusted cliches and footage that we've all seen before. ("Britian was the sick man of Europe" etc etc) Felt more like a cheapo DVD you might pick up at a petrol station, than a fresh and challenging historical viewpoint.

The annoying thing is, the BBC must have shitloads of interesting footage stashed away (in the regions, particularly) which would have put the "accepted" version of events in a different perspective. If Adam Curtis can dig out some juicy stuff, why not Andrew Marr?

A comfortable, sentimental high speed race through our childhoods and teens without any apparent purpose – what was it really all about, apart from the News and Current Affairs Dept filling a content quota ?

Last night's was pretty dire...and the whole series has been history for the MTV generation. All vox pops, little susbstance.

Why they couldn't have made it double the number of episodes I don't know, at least offering a bit more than susbtance.

The purpose was that it got people like me watching who would usually just pass this sort of thing by, and judging by the fact that it's been winning it's time slot each week (which is impressive for BBC2 at 9pm on a weekday), other people are watching too.

The BBC does lots of dull, worthy stuff that hardly anyone watches. This was populist, but the BBC has to cater for everyone.

I think you're saying the purpose was entertainment, which I suppose is a reasonable aspiration for the BBC.

For me, that jars against the deep gravitas of Marr's delivery - a seriousness which encourages 'us' to assume, perhaps, a greater significance for the programme - so perhaps that's the cause of my discomfort.
