Andorra V England

It wasn't that bad. the players that played worst are the ones I wouldn't say are part of our strongest XI anyway and though 2-0 against Andorra isn't a great result on paper, they defended deeper than I've ever seen any other team defend before. Scoring was made tricky by the sheer weight of numbers they had in their own box pretty much constantly throughout the match.

There was an air of arrogance, as if they thought they only had to turn up to win heavily.

Don't you think that perhaps it is the boo-boy supporters who are arrogant - this whole 'Why aren't we winning already - we invented the game' attitude that some England supporters have. Why not just support the team?

Maybe that's why the managers have to be so highly paid too - they have to cope with the English media trashing them. There was a doc. on ESPN this afternoon called 'From a turnip to a swede' about this today.

I think the fact that the players are so highly payed aswell as the manager, it leaves them open to being criticized easily. Its part of the price you pay for earning so much.

I don't understand this argument. It isn't England that pays them. Unlike the managers, they give any money from the FA to charity.

They're highly payed footballers.(it doesnt matter if england pays them or not)

The manager earns around £6m in total, right?

If they can't score against teams like andorra without some trouble, questions will start to get asked. And people will get frustrated easier.

Why? They're doing it because the manager has chosen them and, unlike some other notable players like Carragher, playing for their country means something to them.

Have you seen what Carragher said about it in his book? At least they care enough to keep turning up and being repeatedly slagged off.

But the players for most big nations get paid a lot, and they also frequently have low-scoring, ground-out wins over minor nations in qualifying. It really doesn't matter that much. The biggie's on Wednesday. If we can get a draw in Zagreb, that would be a great result.

The more money you earn, the more people expect from you. Its not that hard to work out. Ok england doesn't pay them, but since when does that matter?Surely if they're worth that amount of money, they should show it a bit more for their country? If they truly cared, they would. But most of the time they haven't.(in response to zamb)

That's the point, really. I'll reserve my judgments until i've seen the next few england games and see how were progressing.

I do think that some of the time lack of caring is a problem, but quite often, England simply get frustrated by opponents who put 10 men behind the ball, and don't have enough creativity to break them down.

I missed that game, but wasn't us failing to get the draw mostly down to defending and goalkeeping fuckups (which is, when you think about it, quite untypical of England)

Of course you will qualify. You got a good draw in the first place. results agoants the bottom team ( Andorra ) at the dn of qualification are ignored, so you should be 2nd place in a truly worst case scenario

theres zero chance of you actually winng the WC though.

Ever.

I still think they would take the easy way out and retire from international duty if they didn't care. Could anyone pay you enough to face the torrents of abuse they get from the press and the so-called supporters??? It's too easy to be judgemental about this - would you like your performance in your job to be on the back pages of every newspaper - and to get dogs abuse from the public???

I agree with this. I am baffled by Andorra's negativity - what on earth is the point in sitting with 11 men behind the ball all the time? If you're a minnow playing one of the top seeds in your group, you might as well have a bit of a go.

If they cant get at least 2nd place in this group they may as well give up,at least the Euro 2008 qualifers was harder,ya had Croatia and a decent Russia in that group.
